The 2019 Jeep Cherokee Has Made It’s European Debut:

With Two Diesel Options...

After launching in the North American market in January, the 2019 Jeep Cherokee has finally been shown off in it’s European offering. While the European version is similar to the North American offering, there is a big difference of what is under the hood.

To meet all customer needs and preferences, the engine range of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee has been expanded and offers the choice between different powertrain groups.

In detail, the 2.2-liter MultiJet II turbodiesel engine with Stop-Start technology (ESS) offers incredible flexibility and optimum performance in all conditions. The 150 horsepower version with a torque rating  of 350 Nm (258 ft.-lbs of torque) is offered in combination with the six-speed manual transmission and the 4×2 configuration. The 195 horsepower version is combined with the 9-speed automatic transmission and offers 4×4 configurations (with 4WD Low, two-speed PTU available on request) and 4×2 – the latter a new feature in the Cherokee range. The maximum torque delivered is 450 Nm (332 ft.-lbs of torque).

The 2.2-liter MultiJet II four-cylinder architecture features a specific 16-valve twin-shaft aluminum head, designed to increase the operating pressure of the common rail system with Injection Rate Shaping, which works at 2000 bar. The design of the pistons, the connecting rods and the crankshaft is optimized with a view to containing the weight.

The shape of the combustion chamber and the reduced compression ratio ensure low emissions of NOx pollutants and high performance, while the new solenoid injectors spray finely the fuel, with clear advantages both on the front of the silent operation, both on the containment of consumption.

The engine features an unprecedented variable geometry turbocharger integrated into the exhaust manifold: a solution that reduces engine weight and improves the functionality of the ‘SCR on filter’ exhaust gas treatment system. This solution integrates the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) functionality on a DPF substrate, to promote NOx reduction through ADblue injection (passive SCR under the floor treats the unreacted ammonia continuing the reduction process) and particulate reduction through regeneration management.

The 2.2-liter engine complies with recent emissions regulations.

In 2019, the new 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo-injected direct injection engine will be available, developing 270 horsepower (estimated) and 400 Nm (332 ft.-lbs) of torque in combination with the nine-speed automatic transmission. Equipped with Stop-Start (ESS) technology, this new gasoline engine ensures fuel efficiency and will be offered in conjunction with all-wheel drive.

The Jeep Cherokee engines can be combined with the TorqueFlite nine-speed automatic transmission. Optimized, it offers new control software to ensure precise responses, fast accelerations and fluid changes. It allows you to tackle brilliant departures and to benefit from the fluid and constant supply of power over long motorway sections.
