First Look: 2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Widebody:

Might Be The Best All-Around Charger From Dodge...

If you have been a daily reader of MoparInsiders.com, you might know that we believe that our own long-term 2014 Dodge Charger R/T Plus AWD Sport is the best everyday version of the Dodge Charger sedan. But there might be another version of the Charger, that might be changing our minds, the new 2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Widebody.

After spending some time around the new 2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Widebody, we are quite pleasantly pleased with Dodge’s latest creation. While the new 2020 Dodge Charger SRT HELLCAT Widebody impressed us with its performance numbers, its almost $70,000 USD price doesn’t. Featuring the same new looks as the HELLCAT Widebody, the Scat Pack Widebody offers increased performance with a starting price that is almost $23,500 less than the supercharged offering.

Powered by the 6.4-liter 392-cubic-inch HEMI V8, the Scat Pack Widebody makes a best-in-class naturally-aspirated 485 horsepower and makes a stout 475 lb.-ft. of torque. Plenty of power for the average person to flog around on the track or street, while being civilized to achieve a fuel economy rating in the mid-20s on the highway in normal driving conditions. The robust ZF-source TorqueFlite 8HP70 transmission has no issue pushing the 4,400 lb. four-door to 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds.

The 2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Widebody also receives its own unique tuned suspension setup for the new model year. With its standard three-mode Bilstein adaptive damping suspension, standard electronic power steering (EPS) with selectable steering tuning, massive SRT-engineered Brembo brake system featuring 15.4-inch front brake rotors and 6-piston front calipers and 4-piston rear calipers, wider tires, this Scat Pack model is the quickest and best-handling Charger Scat Pack ever.

SRT engineers gave the 2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Widebody modified springs, sway bars, and shocks compared to its non-Widebody counterpart. The engineering team increased the front spring rates making the car 27% stiffer as well as revised the damper calibration to match the suspension tuning revisions. A larger 22 mm rear sway bar was also added to keep the body roll of the wider four-door muscle car under control.

Of course, a Scat Pack, wouldn’t be a Scat Pack unless it featured Launch Control, Launch Assist, and Line Lock which was added to last year’s lineup as standard equipment on the new widebody offering.

When it comes down to the numbers beyond the 0-60 mph time, the 2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Widebody is capable of running the quarter-mile in 12.4 seconds @ 111 mph. The car also can pull .98 g of lateral grip on the skidpad, has a 60-0 mph stop in 107 feet, and is around 1.3 seconds faster on Dodge’s 2.1-mile road course. That is equal to about 8 car lengths per lap than the 2019 model non-Widebody model.

“Since we first launched Scat Pack in 2014, the sales mix of our high-performance models has increased from four percent to more than 25 percent,” Kuniskis added. “Charger Scat Pack models deliver more muscle for the dollar than any car out there. Offering a Widebody Package on Charger Scat Pack gives us the opportunity to build on that momentum.”

When it comes to looks, the Charger widebody offerings look much more aggressive than their non-Widebody counterparts thanks to a menacing looking new front and rear fascia design that blends the wider fender flares more naturally into its design than its Challenger sibling. The front fascia ditches the dual-snorkel grille that was added to the last year for a new “mail-slot” grille found on other SRT engineered products like the Durango SRT and Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. This design allows for a more direct route for cool air to travel into the radiator. The new front fascia was designed to create even better aero balance around the front of the car and the wider fenders. We were disappointed that like the Challenger R/T Scat Pack Widebody, the Charger Scat Pack Widebody ditches the standard foglights from the non-Widebody models.

In the wheel department, the Charger Scat Pack Widebody will come standard with 20-inch x 11-inch Devil’s Rim” split-five spoke with Low-gloss Granite finish. This is the same wheel design that we have seen on the Challenger Widebody models since the 2018 model year. Dodge will also offer a very beautiful set of 20-inch x 11-inch Carbon Black wheels as an option. Of course, those wheels can be wrapped in Pirelli 305/35ZR20 all-season performance tires, while a set of three-season tires are optional.

While much of the inside of the 2020 Dodge Charger looks the same as last year’s car, Dodge is offering some tasteful upgrades to make the interior of the four-door muscle car to give the interior a more premium feel. For 2020, Charger Scat Pack models get a premium French live-stitch instrument panel and door uppers on all models equipped with leather. A new Carbon & Suede Package is also available adding real carbon fiber accents to the instrument panel and console bezels and Dinamica suede headliner, sun visors and A-pillars.

The 2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Widebody has a starting U.S. Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $45,995 (or Canadian MSRP of $59,945). The new Charger Scat Pack Widebody, will join the non-Widebody version in dealer showrooms in the first quarter of 2020. For more information, visit Dodge.com or your local Dodge//SRT dealer.
