FIRST WATCH: The 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale Is Ready For Duty!

Bardolino Police Have The New C-UV Already In Service...

Alfa Romeo’s newest vehicle is already making a statement for itself by becoming the newest vehicle to serve law enforcement. Wearing the official colors of the Bardolino Police, the C-UV is already in service patrolling the streets around Lake Garda, the largest lake in Northern Italy.

Bardolino law enforcement entrusted Bertazzoni Veicoli Speciali, an outfitter specializing in the transformation of vehicles intended for police, emergency, and other special uses for the task. As a result, the outfitter chose the new Tonale Edizione Speciale (Special Edition) as the basis for the newest patrol unit.

While the Tonale Edizione Speciale features a number of exterior options like 20-inch aluminum wheels, red Brembo® brake calipers, full LED adaptive Matrix headlamps, and front tinted windows, Bertazzoni Veicoli Speciali fitted the Tonale with several upgrades specific to law enforcement.

Among the list of law enforcement enhancements include LED exterior lighting that give the vehicle a 360° visibility presence, a rear slide-out storage tray system in the hatch, fire extinguisher, police radio, control switch panel for lights and sirens, rechargeable LED flashlights, bulletproof vests, and even a foldable table for police to install a computer.

Powering the Tonale, is the new turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four-cylinder gasoline mild-hybrid (mHEV) engine first shown on the Jeep® Renegade and Compass e-Hybrid models. The mHEV delivers 160 horsepower and 176 lb.-ft. (240 Nm) of torque and mated to a new 7-speed 7HDT300 dual-clutch automatic.

The mHEV has a built-in 48-volt 15 kW (20 horsepower) electric motor delivering 41 lb.-ft. (55 Nm) of torque – equalizing to 99 lb.-ft. (135 Nm) of torque at gearbox input level – which can propel the wheels even when the internal combustion engine (ICE) is turned off. The new e-Hybrid models offer up to 15% lower consumption and CO2 emissions than the previous gasoline models.

To top it off, the Tonale wears the handsome black and white colors of the Bardolino Police, with hints of Safety Yellow at the front and rear of the vehicle.

Knowing how the Giulia and Stelvio have played an important role in law enforcement for Italian agencies, there is no doubt that the Tonale will also continue on that path. Especially since the Tonale PHEV Q4 offers a full all-electric mode, allowing it to patrol Italian city center areas where internal combustion engines (ICEs) are not allowed.
