Here Is Everything New For The 2022 Jeep® Wrangler Lineup!

Willys Xtreme Recon, More Standard Features, 4xe Design Details...

After having an impressive showing in the 2021 model year due to new competition (i.e. Ford Bronco), the Jeep® brand is now ready to pull the covers off what it has in store for the 2022 model year. Despite being mostly untouched, there are several little changes to the Wrangler that some Jeep diehards will appreciate.

As far as design, nothing has changed heading into 2022. The Wrangler (JL) continues to offer a body-on-frame design, front and rear five-link suspension system, solid axles, electronic lockers, and the availability of a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission (depending on the model).

Powertrains also remain untouched. Options include a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine integrated with two electric motors and a 400-volt battery pack (Unlimited 4xe), 6.4-liter HEMI® V8 engine (Unlimited Rubicon 392), 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with engine stop-start (ESS) technology, and 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with ESS or mild-hybrid e-Torque technology. Also available on Wrangler Unlimited models is a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine with ESS.

New Off-Road Options –

The Xtreme Recon Package that made its debut on the Rubicon and Rubicon 392 last year, will now be offered on the Wrangler Unlimited Willys with the Pentastar V6 eTorque models. The Willys Xtreme Recon Package includes LT315/70R17C (35-inch) BF Goodrich KO2 all-terrain tires, 17-by-8-inch Beadlock capable wheels, 4.56:1 axle ratio, swing gate reinforcement, and 1.5-inch factory suspension lift with uniquely tuned shocks.

Rubicon models equipped with the Pentastar engine can also feature a new 4.88 axle ratio with the 8-speed automatic (late availability) or 6-speed manual, delivering an impressive 100:1 crawl ratio, right from the factory.

4xe New Design Details –

2022 Jeep® Wrangler Sahara High Altitude 4xe. (Jeep).

For the electrified Wrangler Unlimited 4xe models, there are even more details to tell them apart from the standard Wrangler models. Sahara 4xe models will now match the rest of the 4xe lineup, thanks to the addition of blue tow hooks. Blue pad print will be added to all of the Wrangler Unlimited 4xe lineup’s wheels as well for 2022.

A new 20-Inch x 8-Inch fully-painted multispoke aluminum wheel also makes its first appearance on High Altitude 4xe models. This is the same wheel design that our spy photographers caught on a number of the High Altitude 4xe testers, during the vehicle’s developmental phase (see above).

There are also no available details on the entry-level Wrangler Unlimited Sport 4xe. Although our spy photographers have continued to see the model continuing to test on the public roads of Michigan, we bet that the semiconductor shortage has weighed heavy on the decision not to bring the model to market just yet.

New Standard Features –

2022 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 4xe. (Jeep).

Depending on the model you are looking at, there are a few new standard features added to the lineup.

On Sahara and Rubicon models, Remote Proximity Keyless Entry is now standard. Those who choose other models can still equip the function with the optional Technology Group Package. Also, both the Sahara and Rubicon models come standard with the famed 8.4-inch Uconnect 4C touchscreen and Alpine® Premium Audio System which features 9-speakers, rear subwoofer, and a 552-watt, 12-channel amplifier.

For those looking at the Sport and Sport S-based models, the 7-inch Uconnect 4 infotainment touchscreen is now standard (except for those who opt for the two-door without A/C).

All Wrangler models get a new standard cabin air filter, that removes 95% of air particulates. Something that Stellantis has been implementing in all of their vehicles.

Returning Luxuries –

Of course, all of the new goodies from 2021 return for the new model year.

  • Dual-Door Group (available with Base or Premium uppers), includes both full and half door options for the Wrangler. The full-steel production doors are installed on the vehicle at the time of purchase while matching body-colored half-doors are packaged and placed in the back of the vehicle at delivery.
  • Corning Gorilla Glass Windshields, available on Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon-based models. The combination of an ultra-thin Gorilla Glass inner ply with a 52% thicker outer ply makes this windshield lightweight, durable, and up to three times more resistant to chips, cracks, and fractures from stones and off-road debris.
  • The Sunrider Flip Top for Hardtop Models, available on all Wrangler models, offers a front-row soft top that quickly and easily flips back for an enhanced open-air driving experience (shown above).
  • Doors-Off Mirror Kit, answers owners’ complaints of taking their doors off and not being able to continue to have their mirrors on their Wrangler. Each mirror in the kit attaches to a cowl-end cap bolt and the upper door hinge. In addition, an innovative, custom thumb wheel-nut-clamp is used as an attachment point to the door flange. Mounting brackets are finished with an anti-corrosion undercoat and durable black powder-coat finish. Mirrors include a built-in breakaway feature that prevents damage while in tight spaces on the road or trail.

Iconic 4×4 Systems –

2022 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 392. (Jeep).

Wrangler Rubicon models feature Dana 44 front and rear heavy-duty axles, enhanced off-road rock rails, and the Rock-Trac NV241 two-speed or optional full-time transfer case with a 4:1 low-range gear ratio. They also include electric front and rear differentials, a disconnecting front sway bar, and 33-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain KM3 tires.

Wrangler Sport and Sahara-based models offer a Selec-Trac two-speed transfer case with full-time four-wheel drive and a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio. This full-time two-speed transfer case is intuitive and allows the driver to set it and forget it, while constantly sending power to the front and rear wheels.

Other exterior colors include Bright White, Granite Crystal, Black, Firecracker Red, Sting-Gray, Hydro Blue, Sarge Green, and Silver Zynith (replacing Billet Silver from 2021).

2022 Trim Levels –

With 4 core models and 11 buzz models, the Wrangler has the most diverse lineup of any of the vehicles in the Jeep lineup. Those models consist of…
