RECALL: Jeep® Recalls Grand Cherokee Models For Missing Airbag Labels

Missing Glovebox Sticker Causes Jeep To Recall Over 17,000 Units...

Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling approximately 17,108 units of 2022 to 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L (WL75) and Grand Cherokee (WL74) vehicles. The reason for the recall is that the airbag warning label may have been missing from the dashboard. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirement of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208, “Occupant Crash Protection.”

According to the recall, for a vehicle without a label that shows the proper restraint usage guidelines, the occupants may have an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.

The suspect period began on May 12th, 2022, when the first vehicle was built with a missing airbag warning label, and ended on June 24th, 2022, when the last vehicle was produced before an end-of-line visual verification station was installed. The suspect period was determined using vehicle production records.

Recall Chronology:

  • On June 21st, 2022, FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) opened an investigation into 2022 to 2023 MY Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee L vehicles built with a potentially missing dashboard airbag warning label.
  • From June 2022 through April 2023, FCA US TSRC reviewed vehicle records and met with FCA US engineering to review manufacturing and supplier data to understand the condition and determine the suspect population.
  • On April 12th, 2023, FCA US TSRC recognized that a missing required passenger airbag warning label may not meet the FMVSS 208 Occupant Crash Protection requirements.
  • On May 4th, 2023, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.
