Take A Look Inside FCA’s New Mack Assembly Plant:

The Future Home Of The Next-Generation Jeep® Grand Cherokee (WL)...

Back in February of last year, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) announced its plans to invest $1.6 billion to convert two of its smaller engine plants into the future home of the next-generation 2022 Jeep® Grand Cherokee (WL) and it’s yet to be named three-row variant. The new plant was part of a $4.5 billion investment which impacted five existing FCA Michigan facilities and creating 6,500 new jobs for the area.

The new Detroit Assembly Complex – Mack, is the first new automotive assembly plant in the city of Detroit in 30 years. It brings an additional 3,850 new jobs to the city of Detroit and expands the limited capacity of the current Jefferson North Assembly Plant or JNAP, which currently builds the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK2) and the recently revised 2021 Dodge Durango (WD).

Although the pandemic put a brief hold on the construction of the plant, the project is almost complete. Pre-production pilot models have been running in a limited capacity for the past few weeks now, according to our sources. Most of the plant’s new hires have already begun training at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant or WTAP, which has undergone a massive revamp as it has completed an updated line for the 2021 Ram 1500 Classic and gets ready to launch to new body-on-frame Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer (WS) sport utilities.

FCA has decided to briefly show some video of its all-new manufacturing facility, however, the video is very limited in what we get to see. In the video, you will see some doors alongside the assembly line which lines up with what we have been seeing on prototypes of the new Grand Cherokee three-row.

The new three-row variant (internally called WL75) should start production during the first half of 2021. The all-new two-row Grand Cherokee (known as the WL74) should begin production in the fall of next year.

Well, that is 4.5 billion $ going in the right direction.

I’m thinking my next Jeep will be a two row GC. How many new SUV’s and sedans and coupes will be based off this platform? My guess....a large Alfa Romeo SUV, the next generation Maserati Levante and Ghibli, next generation Dodge Charger, Challenger and Journey replacement, next generation Cherokee, and the next generation Chrysler 300 and a Cherokee based Chrysler three row SUV. That is bang for the buck.

I feel this Grand Cherokee will be a grand hit.
On top of the higher pricing , Grand Cherokee (both 3-row and the standard length) will perform low 30,000-mid 30,000 monthly volume.
