Chrysler Celebrates the Minivan with Latest Century of Innovation Episode

New Video Explores How Chrysler Reinvented Family Travel

Chrysler is continuing its 100th Anniversary celebration with a brand-new installment in its Chrysler Century of Innovation video series. The latest episode, titled “Chrysler: Evolution of the Minivan,” takes a deep dive into the invention and evolution of a vehicle that forever changed how families travel—the Chrysler minivan.

1996 Chrysler Town & Country LXi. (Chrysler).

Hosted by Chrysler Historian Brandt Rosenbusch, the episode walks us through how Chrysler launched the very first minivans back in 1983 with the Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager. These vans didn’t just add sliding doors—they started a whole new category in the automotive world. Since then, Chrysler has sold over 15 million minivans and has led the way with industry-first features like Stow ‘n Go® seating and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains.

The video highlights how the original minivans were built to solve real family needs—like space, comfort, and fuel economy—and how they’ve continued to evolve into the high-tech, family-friendly vehicles we see today, like the Chrysler Pacifica. From built-in DVD players and hands-free doors to hybrid electric driving and USB ports in every row, the Chrysler minivan has kept up with changing lifestyles and technology.

This is the sixth episode of a seven-part series that looks back on Chrysler’s most iconic moments and innovations as the brand hits the century mark.
