DISCONTINUED: Jeep® Renegade 4xe’s Missed Impact in North America

The Untapped Frontier in North America's "Electrified" Landscape...

The automotive industry’s rapid shift toward electrification makes the absence of the Jeep® Renegade 4xe in the North American market a significant missed opportunity for both the brand and consumers, especially given the Renegade’s North American discontinuation in 2024.

This compact SUV promised affordability and well-equipped features for those desiring a blend of urban convenience and off-road capability. The Renegade 4xe was set to revolutionize the market with its innovative plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system, seamlessly integrating two electric motors, an 11.4 kWh battery pack, and a fuel-efficient 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, resulting in a formidable combined output of 240 horsepower.

A standout feature was its impressive all-electric range of up to 31 miles (50 kilometers), exceeding its Wrangler and Grand Cherokee 4xe counterparts, catering perfectly to urban commuting needs. In zero-emission mode, it offered a top speed of 81 mph. In hybrid mode, it reached an impressive 124 mph and accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds, promising both efficiency and performance.

The Renegade 4xe seamlessly adapts to different driving styles, terrains, and weather conditions through the E-Mode selector near the climate controls. This feature allowed drivers to leverage the combined power of motors in Hybrid mode, opt for emissions-free travel in the electric motor, or preserve the battery charge in E-Save mode for on-demand all-electric capability.

Additionally, it retained Jeep’s renowned off-road capabilities via the Jeep® Active Drive Low system, merging PHEV technology with the brand’s legendary torque and performance, appealing to a broad spectrum of consumers. The Selec-Terrain® traction control system offers four dynamic driving modes—Auto, Snow, Sand/Mud, and the new Sport mode—perfectly combining the responsiveness of the electric motor and combustion engine for a more immediate and dynamic driving style, ideal for city driving.

The discontinuation of the Renegade 4xe in this market amplified the missed opportunity of a smaller vehicle bridging the gap between eco-conscious commuting and rugged exploration. Unfortunately, the Italian-built Renegade 4xe missed out on the aesthetic updates seen in its Latin America-produced counterparts.

In the dynamic landscape of automotive evolution, the absence of the Renegade 4xe leaves a void in the market, emphasizing the untapped potential it could have unleashed on North American roads and trails.

The recent shake up in Jeep leadership is telling. Jeep, without question, is Stellantis’ solid gold. It can lead the whole company to greater levels globally. But the brand is so disorganized around its model mixes, it’s manufacturing facilities and it’s unrealistic and flawed electrification timetables and plans that it is a mess. An embarrassing mess.
No Renegade, no Cherokee, two good selling models that were not replaced on time as the world awaits the Wagoneer S and Recon, both which, if not given an ICE option, may be doomed to failure right out of the box.
Indeed Jeep has a mess on their hands and Renegade is just a hint at how bad things are. Then there is Chrysler, Dodge and Ram. Oh my !!!

Not knowing anything about a pending discontinuation, I purchased one for my wide and she loves it. The 1.3 is amazingly strong, a slight turbo lag, but FUN to drive. We've already been to the mountains and other places in it.
Get this, it is the most basic of basic models. Not even a luggage rack. But it is what my wife wanted. As long as she is happy, I am happy.
I'm 6'4" and fit inside with more ease than a Renegade!
Sad to see it go.

Mefi plant is being converted to the PSA based STLA Mid.... that is where the Renegade for USA come from, India made ones are Right-handed, Brazil and USA have no trade root or favorable trade relationship, GAC relationship has been dissolved. So, there is plenty of spare tool sets but they would have to be moved. Avenger a true B size has replaced in Europe..... it's quit a quandary.

Yea, too many moving parts. I know I’m confused, not surprising though.
