RECALL: Jeep® Recalls 2022 Wrangler Models For Taillight Assembly Wiring Harness Issue!

Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2022 Jeep® Wrangler (JL) vehicles for an issue that may cause their side marker lights not to function. The reason is due to an incompatible taillight assembly wiring harness. Those vehicles affect fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) #108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”

The suspect period began on Wednesday, January 12th, 2022, when incompatible wire harness and tail lamp assemblies were introduced into vehicle production and ended on Wednesday, March 16th, 2022, when the incompatible components were no longer used in vehicle production. Vehicle production records were used to identify the suspect period and specific vehicles.

According to FCA US, LLC only 15 Jeep Wranglers are affected by the issue. Similar vehicles not included in the recall were built before or after the suspect period, with compatible components, or were repaired prior to release from the production plant.

Recall Chronology:

• On Monday, March 21st, 2022, the FCA US, LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization was notified of a vehicle build issue on certain vehicles related to non-functional rear side marker lamps within the taillamp assembly.
• From Tuesday, March 22nd, 2022, through Tuesday, April 19th, 2022, FCA US TSRC reviewed FCA US records and met with FCA US Engineering to review the issue, understand the failure mode, and determine the suspect population.
• On Wednesday, April 20th, 2022, the FCA US TSRC organization recognized a vehicle build issue exists on certain vehicles related to non-functional rear side marker lamps, potentially not in compliance with FMVSS #108.
• On Thursday, May 5th, 2022, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.

The remedy is to replace the rear taillamp assemblies and update the vehicle configuration to ensure the FMVSS #108 lighting requirements are met. This recall is not related to a component defect but rather an FCA US Engineering specification error for the wiring harness.

FCA US LLC will replace the taillight assemblies, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed out on Friday, July 1st, 2022. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC’s number for this recall is Z43.
