BREAKING: Maserati Will Build A MC20 GT2 For Competition Next Year!

Ordering The Trident-Branded Race Car Will Be Open To Both Teams & Individuals...

Just a couple of days after announcing a new very limited run of its new track-specific “Project24” super sportscar, Maserati has announced that it will re-enter motorsports with the introduction of the MC20 GT2 race car. Designed ever since the early stages of development of the MC20, the MC20 GT2 will bring the Trident brand back to track for GT competition and will first be featured in the Fanatec GT2 European Series Championship, next year.

Maserati will offer the car to customers and teams, willing to race it.

The MC20 GT2 is based on the standard road-going production model, which inherits its best-in-class specifications. These include the innovative twin-turbocharged Nettuno engine with Maserati Twin Combustion (MTC) technology, double-wishbone suspension with a semi-virtual steering axis, and a carbon fiber monocoque.

The return to motorsports represents the ideal link between the brand’s new era and the victories achieved by the frequently victorious MC12 in the FIA GT Championships from 2004 to 2010. Maserati even won the 24 Hours of Spa, three times with its former MC12 offering (2005, 2006, and 2008).

We are driven by our passion, both on the road and on the track,“ said Davide Grasso, Maserati CEO. We have a long history of world excellence in motorsport and we are extremely proud to race with the extraordinary MC20. Racing has always been Maserati’s natural habitat and now, both in the Fanatec GT2 European Series Championship and in the Formula E Championship, this brand is making a new start from its roots to build the future.

“Maserati Corse is bringing the link between Formula E factory program and our road cars with the MC20 GT2,“ stated Jean-Marc Finot, Senior VP, STELLANTIS Motorsport. “This new step is completing the legacy and the legitimacy of Maserati in Motorsport. The MC20 is a fantastic road-legal car. We are happy that our passionate customer will enjoy racing with it”.
