In a statement, Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and GreenCarJournal.com, expressed enthusiasm about the Tonale’s approach to electric driving: “Alfa Romeo’s Tonale offers an exciting and sporty way to drive electric.” Cogan highlighted the initial 33 miles of emission-free driving and a substantial 360-mile driving range for longer trips, portraying the Tonale as a versatile choice for varied driving needs.

Larry Dominique, Senior Vice President and Head of Alfa Romeo North America emphasized the Tonale’s role in Alfa Romeo’s evolution towards electrification while preserving the brand’s performance and Italian heritage. Dominique said, “The Alfa Romeo Tonale represents the beginning of our transformation to greater electrification while staying true to the performance and Italian DNA our customers love.”

The Tonale’s distinction lies in its efficient powertrain, leveraging a 1.3-liter MultiAir turbocharged four-cylinder engine for front-wheel propulsion. A high-voltage Belt Starter Generator (BSG) complements it for improved efficiency and smoother operation.

With a best-in-class 285 horsepower and an electric range of 33 miles, the Tonale seamlessly marries efficiency with Alfa Romeo’s characteristic sporty nature. Its 15.5-kWh lithium-ion battery fuels a rear axle-mounted 90-kW electric motor, delivering 184 lb.-ft. (250 Nm) of torque from a standstill, resulting in a total output of 285 horsepower and 347 lb.-ft. (470 Nm) of torque, setting it apart in the PHEV C-SUV segment.

The Tonale is available in three trims – Veloce, Ti, and Sprint – starting at $43,845 (excluding a $1,595 destination charge), providing consumers with various options to suit their preferences and requirements.
