Jeep® Mexico Gets An Updated Version Of The 2023 Renegade B-SUV!

Mexico Gets The Version We Wanted...

The Jeep® Renegade B-segment SUV is one of the most popular Jeep offerings across the globe. While the American and Canadian markets import their Renegade (BV) from the Stellantis Melfi Assembly Plant in Italy, south of the border, the Mexican market gets their Renegade (B1) from the Stellantis Goiana Assembly Plant in Brazil

We originally thought that Jeep would be rolling out the updates globally for 2023, however, it doesn’t seem in the cards. So this means the Mexican market Renegade, sets itself apart from the American and Canadian models with fresher looks and new technology.

This means that the Renegade in Mexico, receives all of the upgrades the Brazilian model got earlier this year.

The updated 2023 Renegade shows some design changes, both inside and out. Starting with the vehicle’s exterior, there is now full-LED lighting. A new set of LED headlamps feature integrated turn-signals, which feature a sequential pattern. The front bumper has also been redesigned and now features broader lines crossing the piece horizontally and framing the new LED fog lights. The set received a prominent piece at the bottom, which highlights the front and gives the iconic seven-slot grille a new look for the Renegade. The rear tail lamps have also been redesigned to feature a new look at the Renegade’s classic “X” pattern.

Inside, the updated Renegade draws attention at first glance, with the new Jeep steering wheel (found in the updated Compass and new Grand Cherokee). A new center armrest adds another Easter egg for fans, just like the new Commander (H1) it now adorns “Jeep 1941” as a permanent reminder of the birth year of the brand that created the SUV in the world.

The updated Renegade has also received a technology update for the 2023 model year. All models will be equipped with various safety features and driving aids. The highlight is Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), which continuously monitors the traffic ahead. When the risk of collision with other vehicles is detected, the Renegade emits an audible and visual alert to the driver. If there is no action, the system automatically applies the Renegade’s brakes, reducing the impact of a collision or even preventing a crash.

This feature is made possible by a camera positioned on top of the windshield. The same device allows the inclusion of other systems, such as the Lane Keeping Assistant (LKA). They read the horizontal signaling of the road and can make punctual corrections on the steering wheel to alert the driver that the vehicle is invading the side lanes. Finally, the camera also continuously reads and recognizes traffic signs, indicating the speed of the road in real-time on the dashboard.

Safety is reinforced by a fatigue detector, which is standard on all models. It analyzes various vehicle parameters, including travel time, and suggests to the driver a rest stop whenever the risk of drowsiness behind the wheel is identified. The updated Renegade also receives Automatic High-Beam Headlamps (AHB), which adjust to the surrounding traffic to avoid dazzling other vehicles while ensuring the best illumination of the road ahead.

Renegade also has Blind-Spot Monitoring (BSM), which uses sensors on the sides of the Renegade to alert the driver, via lights in the mirrors, to the presence of cars around at points that may not be seen by the driver. The rear traffic warning adds more protection in reversing maneuvers and exits from the garage (when the sensors detect the proximity of perpendicular cars, an alert is issued in the cabin).

In addition to all of these autonomous technologies, the new Renegade has an instrument panel (I/P) with a 7-inch full-digital gauge cluster. The cluster features a customizable screen that can be adjusted according to the driver’s desire. The customization allows the driver to see things such as turbo pressure, power sent to the wheels, and even a G-force meter.

The new Renegade also features the new 8.4-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 5 infotainment software. With Uconnect 5, you have wireless integration of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. There is also a new wireless cellphone charger with a cooling feature directed by an air conditioning outlet, preventing overheating. Other passengers can charge their smartphone through the 3 USB ports, 1 type-A and 1 type-C in the center console in front and 1 type-A for the rear-seat passengers. This allows the user to use the cable that best suits their device without the need for adaptors.

The Mexican Renegade now adopts the same turbocharged 1.3-liter “FireFly” inline-four-cylinder engine as the American and Canadian models. The FireFly engine produces 173 horsepower and 199 ft.-lbs. (270 Nm) of torque. The FireFly engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission featuring AutoStick® manual mode and also paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
