Peugeot’s 208 Gets An FCA Engine For Brazilian Marketplace!

FireFly Engine Is Now Available In A Peugeot...

Peugeot returns with full force to an extremely important segment in Brazil: the compact hatchback. But Peugeot is about to stand out in the Brazilian marketplace with the introduction of the 1.0-liter “FireFly” inline-three-cylinder engine in its Peugeot 208. It marks the first time that a former PSA-branded vehicle has been equipped with an FCA-branded engine. A true merger of both sides of the company.

The Peugeot 208 1.0 will be available in Brazil with two trims (Like & Style), with a starting price of R$ 72,990 (or about $15,432 USD). It puts the Peugeot 208 right in the heart of the premium side of the segment.

The 1.0-liter (999 cc) “FireFly” inline-three-cylinder engine is part of the FCA Global Small Engine (GSE) family and is internally known as the GSE-N3. The engine has been found under the hood of the Fiat Mobi, Fiat Uno, and Fiat Argo. In the Peugeot 208, the GSE-N3 delivers 76 horsepower (57kW) and 107 N⋅m (79 lb.-ft.) of torque with flex-fuel capability.

The GSE-N3 equipped 208 1.0, is the result of Stellantis’ new synergy, which involved its application on the PSA CMP architecture. Thanks to Stellantis engineering teams in Porto Real (RJ), Betim (MG), and Palomar, Argentina, the 208 1.0 offers excellent drivability and premium suspension comfort.

Both the Peugeot 208 1.0 Like and Style will come standard with a 5-speed manual transmission.
