Someone Actually Bought A New Dodge Journey in 2025

The Journey Continues On As A Zombie Car...

It’s 2025. Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) offers electric muscle cars, hybrid minivans, and self-parking trucks. So how did someone buy a brand-new Dodge Journey this year?

Yes, you read that right — new. Not “lightly used” or “certified pre-owned,” but an untouched, sticker-on-the-window, full-warranty, showroom-fresh Dodge Journey during the first quarter of 2025.

Let’s be clear—we’re not talking about the newer, Chinese-built Journey that Dodge Mexico has been selling since 2022. This was the original Dodge Journey (JC49), built in Toluca, Mexico, based on the same architecture that underpinned Chrysler Sebring/200 and Dodge Avenger. Americans and Canadians said goodbye to it after the 2020 model year, and it somehow sat on a dealership lot here in the U.S. for five years without anyone taking it home… until now.

Let’s break this down.

The last Dodge Journeys to roll off the line were 2020 models, and even those were scraping the bottom of the barrel. By then, Dodge had ditched the optional 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, leaving buyers with a 2.4-liter TIGERSHARK I4 with just 173 horsepower. That’s less power than some zero-turn mowers in Texas. It also came mated to a relic of a four-speed automatic.

You have to wonder how this car managed to sit that long without being picked up by a rental fleet or a discount reseller. Maybe it was forgotten behind a row of used Durangos, or maybe the dealership just hoped someone would wander in and mistake it for a brand-new model.

After doing some digging on Cars.com, I was able to find seven “new” Dodge Journeys still left inventory at various dealers around the country. This includes two 2017 models, two 2018 models, and three 2019 models. Of those, three are SE Value Packages, one is a SXT, and three are Crossroad models.

Either way, it’s a sad-yet-hilarious moment — a reminder that some vehicles don’t know when to die. For someone out there, the Journey lives on and another sale for the zombie car.
