In a surprising twist of automotive creativity, a one-of-a-kind 2017 Dodge Challenger R/T has emerged, poised to turn heads and challenge conventions. This unique muscle car, set to go under the hammer at the Mecum Dallas 2023 auction on Friday, September 22nd, boasts a striking exterior makeover that pays homage to a classic rival: the 1969 Chevy Camaro.
This Challenger’s transformation is both odd and confusing. It dons a meticulously crafted ensemble of “1969 Camaro replica body components,” altering much of the Challenger’s exterior appearance.
The familiar Challenger grille is gone, in favor of a Camaro-style counterpart. The dual headlights have been seamlessly integrated into a single unit. This bold adaptation is flanked by a commanding valance, housing relocated fog lights, and a hood with an imposing cowl.
The lines of the Challenger have been deftly sculpted to echo the timeless contours of the Camaro, infusing a touch of nostalgia into this modern powerhouse. While the iconic Dodge tail lights remain, a substantial Wickerbill-style wing adds a dash of mystique to the rear aesthetic, marrying elements of both classic models.
A six-inch widebody give the car something of a modern batmobile-like appearance, swathed in a sophisticated matte gray finish, which, combined with the jet-black 5-spoke wheels, creates aggressive presence.
Powering this remarkable creation is a formidable 5.7-liter (345 cubic-inch) HEMI® V8 engine, delivering 375 horsepower and 410 lb.-ft. of torque. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, this quick-shifting Challenger is sure to deliver quicker 0 to 60 mph times than a 1969 Camaro SS. A custom exhaust system with Dynomax mufflers ensures the HEMI has a deep, throaty tone.
While there is only one small photo of the center console to show us its interior, judging by the interior shot, we see that the car has the standard 5.0-inch Uconnect system and lots of aftermarket carbon-fiber trim. It appears that the Challenger remains mostly untouched inside.
The question that looms is, what value does this creation hold? With such a rare and distinctive specimen, it’s difficult to estimate its worth. The fate of this Camaro-bodied Challenger will be decided on September 22nd. Will it find a new home among a discerning collector, or will its uniqueness defy valuation?
