UPDATE: 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 Paint Issue!

A Follow-Up On The Issue...

The MoparInsiders.com staff has received a ton of both positive and negative response on our recent article about our 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320, regarding the paint issue we are having with the car. For those who have been following our long-term Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320, you will know that we ordered the car back in January of this year, as a long-term test vehicle to add to the MoparInsiders.com fleet.

We originally ordered the car a certain way. However, the order was hung up due to the color combination not being available for the R/T Scat Pack 1320 models. We then changed our order to feature the beautiful B5 Blue exterior color with black interior. It set the order back a few weeks, but no biggie we were happy to get our order in. After delivery was delayed for various reasons for several weeks, we were thrilled to hear that the car was being delivered to our friends at White Rock Dodge about a month ago.

Upon delivery, we asked the dealer not to prep the car, as we were going to do it ourselves. We took the 485 horsepower grassroots drag racing machine home, gave it a quick wash and even covered it in a video of when we got the car. Overall, we were ecstatic about the car. The car’s focus for the website and our YouTube channel was to travel across Canada and go to different Mopar-related car events as well as participate in drag racing events.

As an automotive resource site for everything Mopar-related, there isn’t much of a better vehicle to have in your long-term fleet as the 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320. This special edition drag racing package is supposed to be the halo car for the 2019 Dodge Challenger lineup. The car even received special delivery treatment, unlike the 797 horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT HELLCAT Redeye models, and more in line with what the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon got. So it was much to our disappointment that when we did a thorough detail and wash of our car, that we found that all four wheel wells had clear coat issues were the clear coat was bubbled and starting to crack.

We hadn’t even had the car in our possession for the entire month, and the issue looked like it could develop into a serious issue in the future. Being that the site is using the car as a long-term test vehicle, we are going to report on everything that happens with the car, good or bad. So of course, we were going to report on this issue.

We researched FCA Canada’s procedure for its warranty on paint protection, in which it states to take it into your FCA dealer immediately. So we took it to our friends at White Rock Dodge to have their service manager look at the issue and determine if there was an issue. Unfortunately, the service manager wasn’t there at the time we popped in, so we returned the following day to have our car looked at. He took a look at the car and documented the issue, before sending me to a highly-skilled local body and paint shop they use for a second opinion who would check into what would be needed to be done to resolve the issue. The information would then be sent to the dealer and then forwarded to FCA Canada.

The local body and paint shop allowed us to record their thoughts on the paint issue, which you can see in the video above. During the time I was at the shop with the estimator, White Rock Dodge called my phone stating that FCA Canada had seen our video and wanted to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, which shows us that FCA is indeed trying to really back up their customer service performance.

So far, we have loved this car, and the vehicle has not had any other issues. We have had an outstanding experience overall with the car thus far and look forward to a lot more track time and taking the car to different events as well. The dealer response to this issue and their customer care experience thus far has been top notch. So we aren’t mad at FCA or the dealer, things happen. But we wanted to bring attention to the issue, and we are happy that FCA is looking into getting the problem solved.

We will be sure to keep you updated on the ongoing process of the issue. We are hoping that it won’t be a long process and won’t put a damper on our racing schedule this summer, as we are hoping to be pushing this car deep into the 11-second range and plan on taking the car across Canada to race at places like Grand Bend, Ontario in September as well.
