RECALL: Stellantis Recalls 201,619 Ram Heavy Duty & Chassis Cab Trucks For Wiper Issue!

Loose Bolts Can Cause Windshield Wipers To Work Improperly...

Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2019 to 2020 Ram 2500/3500 Heavy Duty pickups, as well as Ram 3500/4500/5500 Chassis Cabs for the windshield wiper arms. According to the recall filed to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the windshield wiper arms may loosen, possibly causing the wipers to function improperly and reduce the driver’s visibility in certain weather conditions.

2019 Ram 3500 Laramie Longhorn Crew Cab Dually 4×4. (HDRams).

Prior to complete wiper system failure, the driver may experience one or both wiper arms that do not clear the windshield properly, or that the wipers are not in their proper rest positions.

The trucks that are affected include the following…

  • 2019 to 2020 Ram 2500 (DJ) – built from April 27th, 2019 to March 9th, 2020 (107,864 units)
  • 2019 to 2020 Ram 3500 (D2)- built from April 27th, 2019 to March 9th, 2020 (38,786 units)
  • 2019 to 2020 Ram 3500 Chassis Cab (DF) (<10,000 GVWR) – built from April 30th, 2019 to February 26th, 2020 (125 units)
  • 2019 to 2020 Ram 3500 Chassis Cab (DD) – built from April 27th, 2019 to March 9th, 2020 (8,007 units)
  • 2019 to 2020 Ram 4500/5500 Chassis Cab (DP) – built from April 27th, 2019 to March 9th, 2020 (17,007 units)

The recall affects a total of 171,789 units in the United States. It also covers another 16,332 units in Canada, 10,328 units in Mexico, and 3,170 units outside North America for a total of 201,619 units worldwide.

Recall Chronology – 

  • On November 17th, 2021, the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization opened an investigation based on information from FCA US Current Production Quality (“CPQ”). CPQ, being familiar with the prior recall (FCA US Recall No. W25/NHTSA Recall No. 20V-208), contacted the safety office to report an observed increase in warranty claims similar to claims from the previous recall on some Ram 2500, 3500, and 4500/5500 vehicles that were not included in W25/20V-208. Customers were experiencing loose windshield wiper arms.
  • From November 17th, 2021, to January 14th, 2022, FCA US TSRC reviewed vehicle records and met with FCA US engineering to review the issue and understand the part design and change history.
  • As of January 12th, 2022, FCA US has identified 29 customer assistance records, 679 warranty claims, and 20
    field reports potentially relating to this issue for all markets with dates of receipt ranging from July 11th, 2019, to December 20th, 2021.
  • As of January 12th, 2022, FCA US is not aware of any accidents or injuries potentially relating to this issue for all markets.
  • On January 20th, 2022, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.
2019 Ram 2500 Power Wagon. (HDRams).

Dealers will tighten the wiper nuts, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on March 18th, 2022. This recall is an expansion of recall number 20V-208. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC’s number for this recall is Z08.

FCA US has a longstanding policy and practice of reimbursing owners who have incurred the cost of repairing a problem that subsequently becomes the subject of a field action. To ensure consistency, FCA US, as part of the owner letter will request that customers send the original receipt and/or other adequate proof of payment to the company for confirmation of the expense.
