Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling approximately 20,755 units of its 2024 to 2025 Dodge Hornet (GG) and Alfa Romeo Tonale (GC) plug-in hybrid (PHEV) crossovers in the U.S. due to a brake pedal issue that could cause a loss of brake function. A brake pedal collapse can increase the risk of a crash.
Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV Recall Details –
The recall affects 16,960 units of the Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV. The issue originated on July 20, 2023, when defective brake pedal assemblies were introduced into vehicle production. The suspect period ended on July 11, 2024, when these assemblies were no longer in use. Supplier and vehicle production records helped identify the affected period.
Alfa Romeo Tonale Q4 PHEV Recall Details –
For the Alfa Romeo Tonale Q4 PHEV, 3,795 units are impacted. The suspect period began on July 20, 2023, when the defective brake pedal assemblies entered production, and it concluded on July 18, 2024, when production of vehicles with these assemblies ceased. The identification of this period was also based on supplier and production records.
Potential Risks and Safety Measures –
A failed brake pedal can lead to a loss of brake function, increasing the risk of a crash without prior warning. In the event of brake pedal failure, drivers can use the Electronic Park Brake, located on the center console, to slow the vehicle to a controlled stop. Additionally, the Automatic Emergency Braking system, when active, will intervene if it detects an imminent collision.

- September 27, 2024: The Stellantis Europe S.p.A Customer Experience (CX) department opened an investigation after receiving warranty claims related to collapsing brake pedal assemblies during normal driving.
- September 27 – October 1, 2024: The Stellantis Europe S.p.A CX team reviewed supplier data and warranty records, identifying the suspect period for the affected vehicles.
- October 1, 2024: Stellantis Europe S.p.A identified 12 global field reports potentially related to this issue, with dates ranging from November 8, 2023, to April 4, 2024. There was one reported accident, with no injuries or fatalities.
- October 2, 2024: Stellantis Europe S.p.A’s Vehicle Regulations Committee decided to initiate a voluntary safety recall for the affected models.

Dealers will reinforce the brake pedal arm at no cost to owners. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on October 24, 2024.
