Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling 1,808 units of its 2023 Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger models. According to the recent recall listing, the parking brake may be improperly adjusted, which can result in a vehicle rollaway. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 135, “Light Vehicle Brake Systems.”
The suspect period began on September 5, 2023, when improperly adjusted parking brake assemblies were introduced into vehicle production, and ended on September 11, 2023, when improperly adjusted parking brake assemblies were no longer used in vehicle production. The suspect period was determined using supplier and vehicle production records.
Records indicate that 133 Chrysler 300s, 1,034 Dodge Chargers, and 641 Dodge Challengers were affected by the recall.
Recall Chronology:
- On September 12, 2023, the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization was notified of a potential issue related to parking brakes that did not engage properly on some 2023 MY Chrysler 300, Dodge Challenger, and Dodge Charger vehicles.
- From September 13, 2023, through November 1, 2023, FCA US TSRC met with FCA US engineering to review the issue and understand part design, manufacturing process, and the suspect population.
- On January 17, 2024, the FCA US TSRC recognized a vehicle manufacturing issue that existed on certain vehicles related to a condition that can lead to the parking brake not functioning properly, which may result in noncompliance with FMVSS No. 135.
- On February 8, 2024, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.
This recall is not related to a part defect but rather an assembly issue where the vehicle may have been built with an improperly adjusted parking brake. The remedy will be to properly adjust the parking brake.
Dealers will properly adjust the parking brake, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on April 5, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US’ number for this recall is 01B.
