Rare 1996 Dodge Viper Carroll Shelby Roadster Pops-Up On Hagerty

Only 9k-Miles On This One-Of-Nineteen Ultra Rare Viper

When it comes to American performance icons, few names carry more weight than Carroll Shelby and the Dodge Viper. Now imagine a car that blends both legacies into one hand-built, fire-breathing roadster. That’s exactly what’s up for grabs right now on Hagerty Marketplace—a 1996 Dodge Viper RT/10 Carroll Shelby Limited Edition Roadster, one of just 19 ever produced, and bidding ends Thursday, May 15th, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. EDT.

This particular car, #12 of the 19, has just 9,126 original miles and is one of only two finished in Viper GTS Blue with Stone White stripes, paying homage to Shelby’s famous Cobra color scheme. Built in collaboration between Carroll Shelby and Dan Fitzgerald of Fitzgerald Motorsports, this ultra-limited Viper is much more than just a paint-and-stripe job—it’s got real muscle and a full set of track-ready upgrades.

Under the hood is an 8.0-liter (488 cubic-inch) VIPER V10 pushing out 415 horsepower stock, bumped to 450 horsepower thanks to Fitzgerald’s bolt-on performance parts. Backed by a 6-speed Tremec manual, this car also received a 3.73:1 rear axle swap (vs the stock 3.00), a custom suspension tune, and free-flowing exhaust that brings out the V10’s trademark roar.

Unique to the CS Edition Vipers, this roadster features:

  • Cobra-style front grille

  • Contoured rear spoiler

  • Striped composite hardtop

  • Shelby-signed steering wheel

  • CS graphics and badging throughout

  • Schroth Racing harnesses

  • Fitzgerald Motorsports insignia and model number: RT/10-CS

  • OZ Racing three-piece wheels with CS center caps

  • Custom CS carpet mats and upgraded Viper alarm system

Backed by an authentication letter signed by both Carroll Shelby and Jack Fitzgerald, this collectible also comes with an impressive pile of documentation, including:

  • Original owner’s manuals

  • Service and diagnostic manuals

  • A 1996 Viper VHS tape

  • Sliding side windows

  • Two sets of keys

  • Photo album from the original conversion

  • A notebook of Carroll Shelby Viper memorabilia

It’s worth noting a couple minor blemishes: scrapes on the lower front valance and a missing CS hub cover on the right rear. But otherwise, this three-owner Viper—last registered in North Carolina since 2007—is a museum-quality Shelby-tuned American icon.

If you’re a Mopar purist or a Shelby loyalist, this is your unicorn. Just 19 Carroll Shelby Vipers were built, and with only two in this color combo and fewer than 10k miles, this RT/10 is among the rarest snakes you’ll ever see slither across an auction block.
