Ram Introduces New Turbodiesel Engine and Big Horn For Brazil
More Power, Better Efficiency, Premium Options...
Ram has just made a big move in Brazil, enhancing its popular midsize pickup, the 2025 Ram Rampage, with a new 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine and introducing an all-new Big Horn trim. This update not only brings more performance but also improved fuel efficiency, making the Rampage lineup even more appealing to a broad range of consumers.
More Power, Less Fuel –
The centerpiece of this update is the new 2.2-liter turbodiesel I4 engine, delivering 200 horsepower (149 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. The engine reaches maximum power at 3,500 rpm, with peak torque available at just 1,500 rpm. This makes the Rampage agile and responsive for urban driving while providing robust power for off-road adventures. Impressively, this increase in performance is paired with reduced fuel consumption.
The new engine can be compared to the larger 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 found in the 2020 to 2023 Ram 1500. That engine produced 260 horsepower (194 kW) and 651 Nm (480 lb-ft) of torque. While the EcoDiesel V6 offered greater overall power and torque, the new 2.2-liter I4 stands out for its compact size and efficiency, making it a suitable choice for the smaller, more versatile Rampage.
Additionally, the Rampage’s ZF-sourced 9-speed automatic transmission has been optimized with a 14% longer differential ratio, which helps reduce engine revs at cruising speeds. This results in fuel efficiency ratings of up to 10.6 km/l (24.9 mpg) in urban conditions and 13.3 km/l (31.3 mpg) on highways, earning an “A” grade from the Brazilian Vehicle Labeling Program (PBEV).
Advanced Engine Tech –
Ram’s new diesel engine features cutting-edge technology, including a variable geometry turbocharger and high-pressure diesel injection system. This setup improves power delivery and fuel efficiency. The engine also uses a double exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system and a liquid-cooled urea injector for emissions control, making it both powerful and environmentally conscious.
Introducing the Big Horn Trim –
The 2025 Ram Rampage lineup expands with the debut of the Big Horn trim. This new version serves as the entry-level model equipped with the new turbodiesel engine. The Big Horn comes with a bold design that includes color-keyed front bumpers, chrome-accented rear bumpers, and a unique grille with chrome highlights. The headlights and taillights are full LED, and 17-inch aluminum wheels complete its rugged look.
Inside, the Big Horn keeps up Ram’s tradition of offering luxury and technology. A 10.3-inch customizable digital instrument panel and a 12.3-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™ are standard. Additional features include a high-definition rear camera, a wireless smartphone charger, and a host of USB ports, including Type-C fast-charging ports.
Safety remains a top priority with six airbags, electronic stability control, and advanced braking systems, while the Hill Descent Control system adds to its off-road capabilities.
Other Enhancements Across the Lineup –
All 2025 Rampage models now come standard with a bed cover, enhancing utility. The Laramie trim adds an Elite Pack, which includes a premium Harman Kardon™ 350-watt 9-speaker sound system with a 6-inch subwoofer and ambient LED lighting. Meanwhile, the Rebel turbodiesel gets upgraded Pirelli Scorpion™ All-Terrain Plus tires for better off-road performance.
Pricing –
All 2025 Ram Rampage models come with standard four-wheel-drive (4×4), emphasizing the truck’s versatility and off-road capabilities. As Ram continues to establish itself as a premium brand in the Brazilian market, it offers a range of models to cater to different preferences. Pricing for the new Big Horn trim will be announced in the coming weeks.
Here’s the current lineup with the new 2.2-liter turbodiesel and 2.0-liter Hurricane4 engines:

Conclusion –
The 2025 Ram Rampage lineup brings enhanced performance, improved efficiency, and premium features. With the new 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine and the addition of the Big Horn trim, Ram reinforces its reputation for building capable, efficient trucks. These updates are poised to attract more fans, especially those seeking a versatile and fuel-efficient option.
It would be exciting to see an American-built Ram Rampage produced at either the Belvidere or Brampton Assembly Plant. Introducing more affordable versions, like a front-wheel-drive (4×2) model and a Tradesman trim, could make the Rampage competitive with the Ford Maverick, which has found significant success in the U.S. Given the Rampage’s capability and efficient design, a well-priced U.S. version could thrive, provided it doesn’t overlap with the Ram 1500, as happened with the last Dodge Dakota.
