Production-Spec 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Caught At Local Walmart:

We Get A Quick Look Underneath That Tape...

For the past several months, we have continued to bring you the latest information about the upcoming revised 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6. Recently, our spy photographers caught the production-spec 2020 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited Sahara EcoDiesel testing around Metro Detroit. Now, one of our readers has caught the production-spec 2020 Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab 4×4 EcoDiesel when a Ram Trucks engineer made a stop at a local Walmart store in the Metro Detroit area.

While there is no visual difference over the gas engine variant, a close eye catches the tape over the engine identification under the 1500 hood badging. Thanks to some leaked images online, we can see what those badges look like without the tape. While the 2020 Jeep Wrangler EcoDiesel features new “3.0 Diesel” badges, the new 2020 Ram 1500 hood badges say Eco in black lettering and Diesel in red lettering.

According to our sources, Ram will start cranking out 2020 Ram 1500 models from it’s Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) as early as July. The Ram brand will then release the new 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel in the fall.

We have seen several 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel models testing on the roads of the Metro Detroit area. There is no doubt, that with all that happened with the emissions issues with the last 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is being careful not to make the same mistake again.

FCA has already announced that the heavily revised 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 will feature new turbocharger technology with a low-friction bearing designed for low end and transient performance. The upgraded EcoDiesel V-6 engine will also feature low-friction pistons to improve fuel economy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide an enhanced combustion system – new injector nozzle, piston bowl, and glow plug with an integrated combustion pressure sensor to optimize combustion.

While the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine for the Jeep Wrangler will be rated at 260 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft. of torque, our sources say that Ram 1500 will have an ample boost in power to fight the new 3.0-liter Duramax I-6 that is showcased in the 2019 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 models. The new EcoDiesel will also feature Engine Stop-Start (ESS)  as standard, as well as a new ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic transmission and is designed to handle the increased torque output.
