Stellantis has informed us that the next-generation Jeep® Compass (J4U) will debut in April, starting with the European market. It will then be unveiled in South America mid-year before arriving in North America at the end of the year.
A New Era for the Jeep® Compass –
Jeep aims to elevate the Compass into a serious contender with this next-generation model. The 2026 Compass will introduce a bold design inspired by its larger siblings, such as the Grand Cherokee (WL). Squared-off lines, pronounced fender flares, and a more athletic stance will define the exterior, signaling a shift toward rugged sophistication compared to the current model.
Sources indicate that the new Compass will feature a slightly longer wheelbase, hinting at a roomier interior. However, Jeep must tread carefully, as the outgoing Compass (MP) grew in size to the point where it began to cannibalize sales of the successful Cherokee (KL) model. With a new D-segment Cherokee (KM) on the horizon by the end of the year, Jeep is working to avoid repeating history.
Built on Advanced Engineering –
For the first time, the Compass will ride on Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform, a modular architecture designed to support internal combustion engines (ICE), hybrids, and fully electric vehicles (EVs). This shift enables Jeep to offer diverse powertrain options tailored to various markets:
4xe – The Compass will feature an all-electric 4xe variant expected to offer a dual e-motor setup with power ranging from 215 horsepower to 382 horsepower. With a 400-volt electrical architecture, the Compass 4xe is said to deliver a range of up to 435 miles (700 km) on a single charge.
e-HYBRID – A front-wheel-drive (4×2) version will likely debut in Europe, optimized for low-speed electric-only driving in urban environments. This setup promises improved efficiency while meeting stricter emission standards. It is expected to use a turbocharged 1.6-liter I4 engine with direct injection and will be available in both South America and North America as well.
ICE – For North America, the turbocharged 2.0-liter Hurricane4 I4 engine is expected to return in the next generation. Our sources indicate that Jeep is restructuring its launch plans, with the ICE model set to debut before the e-HYBRID or 4xe variants in N. The Hurricane4 is also expected to be available in South America, with smaller displacement turbocharged ICE engines eventually making their way to select European markets.
Premium Interior Upgrades –
Inside, the 2026 Compass promises to deliver a tech-forward experience with integrated digital displays, premium materials, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Whether you’re commuting or off-roading, expect seamless connectivity and Jeep’s latest off-road assist technologies to enhance every journey.
Availability and Pricing –
Initial production will begin at the Melfi Assembly Plant in Italy, before expanding to the Goiana Automotive Pole in Pernambuco, Brazil, and then Brampton Assembly in Ontario, Canada. The Brampton facility will be responsible for the production of all U.S. and Canadian-sold models.
Pricing remains under wraps, but Jeep is expected to keep the Compass competitive against rivals like the Ford Bronco Sport and Subaru Crosstrek. The outgoing model starts at $27,495 (including destination charges), so a similarly attractive price point is likely.
For those in the Indian market, Jeep has decided to cancel plans to introduce the next-generation Compass. Instead, the current model will remain in production for a longer period, as the new generation Compass is expected to be too expensive for the market.
