FCA Produces 10 Millionth Pentastar Engine:

Award-Winning Pentastar V6 Hits A New Milestone...

FCA US announced that the 10 millionth Pentastar V6 was produced yesterday at the Trenton Engine Complex. The Pentastar was introduced as a 3.6 liter in 2010 (in 2011 model year vehicles) and joined in 2014 by a 3.2 liter variant in the Jeep Cherokee as well as a 3.0 liter variant in China. Designed with flexibility in mind the Pentastar can be mounted transversely or longitudinally for front or rear drive configurations and as such has managed to replace seven different 6 cylinder engine families with improved fuel economy and responsiveness in every application, it was put into. 

“The Pentastar family has all the hallmarks of an enduring icon,” said Bob Lee, Head of Engine, Powertrain and Electrified Propulsion, and Systems Engineering, FCA – North America. “We upped the ante among high-volume, mainstream-market, V-6 engines. And our customers won big.”

The Pentastar V6 has been on Wards 10 best engine list six seperate times:

  • 3.6-liter V-6 eTorque in the 2019 Ram 1500
  • 3.6-liter V-6 hybrid in the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid
  • 3.6-liter V-6 (Second Generation)
  • 3.2-liter V-6, which is exclusive to the Jeep Cherokee
  • 3.0-liter V-6, which is exclusive to China
  • 3.6-liter V-6, (First Generation)
3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 with eFlite electrically variable transmission – powers the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid

On top of that the Pentastar holds many different fuel efficiency claims: Among model-year 2019 U.S.-market gasoline-powered vehicles with V-6 engines, the 3.6-liter Pentastar contributes to best-in-class, miles-per-gallon (mpg) ratings in these vehicle segments†:

  • Dodge Challenger – combined city/highway cycle (23 mpg)
  • Dodge Challenger – highway cycle (30 mpg)

Large Regular Car

  • Dodge Charger/Chrysler 300 – combined city/highway cyle (23 mpg)

  • Dodge Charger/Chrysler 300 – city cycle (19 mpg)
