It’s May 4th, which means it’s “Star Wars Day”! We figured we would take a look back at when Dodge//SRT partnered with Disney and Lucasfilm to co-promote “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
The co-promotion actually started with the FIAT brand, which a month before the Dodge//SRT announcement, displayed a custom-painted American-market 2016 Fiat 500e “Stormtrooper” at the L.A. Auto Show. The paint scheme was inspired by the armor of the First Order Legion.
A month later and the weekend before the opening of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”, Dodge//SRT took to the streets of the metropolitan Los Angeles area, with a trio of custom wrapped Dodge//SRT vehicles to give fans the opportunity to take photos and videos with the vehicles.
The trio of Star Wars-themed vehicles included one 2016 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat and a 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, wrapped to look like a First Order Stormtrooper. The third vehicle shown was a 2016 Dodge Viper ACR-E (Extreme) wrapped to look like the film’s villain protagonist, Kylo Ren.
Fans were then able to track the cars’ location in real-time on Twitter, using hashtags #Dodge and #TheForceAwakens with the most creative post being shared by Dodge’s social media accounts.
Now the Hellcats and Viper used in Los Angeles weren’t the only cars to wear the Stormtrooper wrap. Several other Dodge vehicles, including this 2016 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack filmed by Autoblog.com, were done to help co-promote the movie elsewhere around the United States.
The Autoblog.com team got their chance to cruise around Metro Detroit with the car for a day. During that time they shot some fun short videos, including hitting the Starbucks drive-thru on the famed Woodward Avenue, equipped with a Stormtrooper mask, which you can see HERE.
So which car was your favorite of the bunch? Would you have taken the Viper, Charger, or Challenger? Let us know in the comments below and “May the 4th, be with you!”
