Jeep® Recon Production To Start Earlier Than Expected

Toluca Will Begin To Produce The New Adventure eSUV In February...

Jeep® is set to expand its lineup with the all-new Jeep Recon (EJ), a D-segment SUV that blends rugged capability with modern versatility. According to one of our sources at Stellantis’ Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico—where the Jeep Compass and the all-new, all-electric Wagoneer S are currently produced—Job #1 production for the Recon is scheduled to begin on Monday, February 24, 2025. This timeline is significantly earlier than initially expected and aligns with the increasing number of pre-production pilot models recently spotted testing in Metro Detroit.

We’re told it’s now an all-hands-on-deck operation in Auburn Hills, with Stellantis bringing employees back to the office for the majority of the workweek. The automaker is reportedly focused on addressing issues encountered during the Dodge Charger Daytona and Wagoneer S launches to ensure a much smoother rollout for the Recon.

A Modern Take on Jeep® Heritage –

The Jeep Recon combines classic Jeep ruggedness with modern practicality, creating a D-segment SUV for adventure and daily life. Developed during the pandemic by Jeep’s Product Design Office in Auburn Hills, the Recon pays tribute to the iconic 1984–2001 Jeep Cherokee (XJ), blending nostalgic design cues with contemporary innovation.

Built on Stellantis’ STLA Large architecture, the Recon will be the first true off-roader to utilize this new platform, making it a highly anticipated and pivotal launch for the brand.

The Recon will be equipped with dual Stellantis Electric Drive Modules (EDMs), delivering an estimated 450 to 600 horsepower. The dual-motor setup will provide standard four-wheel drive (4×4), ensuring the off-road capability Jeep enthusiasts have come to expect.

Trim Levels and Features –

We’ve been informed that the Jeep Recon will debut in three trim levels, each catering to a unique set of drivers. The entry-level Willys trim will provide rugged styling and essential features, staying true to Jeep’s adventurous roots. For those seeking a balance of off-road capability and premium comfort, the Overland trim offers a more luxurious option, ideal for versatile and refined driving. Finally, as suggested by recent spy photos, the off-road-focused Moab trim will feature slightly increased ground clearance, 17-inch wheels wrapped in Nexen Roadian ATX tires, and full under-body armor designed for tackling challenging trails.

Enhancing its appeal, the Recon will include removable doors and an optional power-retractable roof, delivering the open-air experience that has become a hallmark of Jeep’s halo vehicles.

Hybrid Variant on the Horizon –

Jeep® CEO Antonio Filosa has hinted at a potential hybrid variant of the Recon, addressing skepticism toward EVs in certain markets. “[While] being faithful to our main strategy of deep electrification, we can think about opportunities on Recon. Let’s see: Recon will be built on a platform that is very versatile,” Filosa said. He clarified further, stating, “We are just studying [development on the Recon] and just analyzing if there are options for the future — but so far it’s BEV.”

While nothing is confirmed, a hybrid model is expected to debut in 2026, possibly featuring a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four engine paired with hybrid technology. Such a variant would offer buyers greater flexibility, combining reduced emissions with extended range capabilities.

Global Launch –

The Jeep Recon is set for a global rollout soon after its North American debut, with key markets including Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, where Jeep’s reputation for rugged reliability is well established. This marks the Recon as a significant global release for the American adventure brand, poised to make a major impact on Jeep enthusiasts worldwide.

I wonder how they would do a hybrid power train. Ford came up with a mechanical AWD version of their hybrid transmission now used in the Maverick. If Jeep could do the same thing with the eFlite transmission from the Pacifica to use in the Recon, the hybrid version would fly off the shelves.

Pretty sure they will just use the new Punch system with the Purtech, The Pacifica system is bespoke and on it last days. My preference would be for the Hybrid to just be a REEV.

The Punch system, if used with North American driving conditions, will be the end of Jeep. The brand needs a domestically built robust transmission.

I have more to say about a REEV setup, but it will be later in another thread. Did the old Chrysler Corporation solve the under hood space dilemma with combing both a robust ICE generator combined with an electric front drive 25 years ago? The Leap EREV setup is rear drive only, and the Ramcharger packs everything under a lot of real estate. I don't think the Recon will exceed the Wagoneer "S" 113 inch wheelbase, and Jeeps should be AWD.

Imagine having the solution to a problem 25 years before no one imagined such a dilemma would occur.

reev setup is an across the board solution to EV to HEV issue, and eliminates the need for transmission at all. Even the London taxi is getting a Generator.

For sure Jeep is getting the Punch system, the question is whether this Jeep will got the system.

Take the doors off? I didn't see any brackets/sockets for mirror attachments on the body.
