At this year’s Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah, Jeep® enthusiasts were treated to a glimpse of the past merged with cutting-edge technology in the form of the Jeep Willys Dispatcher Concept. While Jeep and Mopar typically unveil seven vehicles for the event, this year’s focus was on quality over quantity, with four meticulously crafted concepts taking center stage.
The Willys Dispatcher Concept is a nod to the iconic post-war civilian Jeep, blending rugged, vintage aesthetics with the electrifying power of modern propulsion systems. Built on the foundation of the Wrangler 4xe, this concept vehicle embodies the spirit of adventure and exploration that has defined the Jeep brand for decades.
Exterior Design –
The exterior of the Willys Dispatcher Concept undergoes a striking retro transformation. Vintage-style 16-inch x 7-inch alloy “steelies” wrapped in Super Traxion 36-inch tires command attention, harking back to the golden age of off-roading. A custom front bumper houses a brand-new Warn winch, providing both functionality and classic appeal. The iconic “WILLYS” lettering proudly adorns the hood, while the Element 115 Green paint, accented with cream-colored steelies, pays homage to Jeep’s heritage.
Interior Comfort and Functionality –
Step inside the Willys Dispatcher, and you’re greeted with a blend of comfort and nostalgia. Distressed saddle leather and houndstooth cloth inserts adorn the seats, exuding vintage charm. With the removal of the front and rear headrests, passengers are transported back to a time when low-back seats ruled the road. A JPP bikini top offers protection from the elements, ensuring a comfortable ride regardless of weather conditions. For added practicality, rugged JPP vinyl covers the floors, while an onboard air compressor stands ready to manage tire pressures on rugged trails.
Performance and Powertrain –
Underneath its retro exterior lies a powerhouse of modern technology. The Willys Dispatcher is powered by Jeep’s award-winning turbocharged 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid (PHEV) 4xe propulsion system, delivering an impressive 375 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque through an 8-speed automatic transmission. Dana 50 Advantech front and rear axles with 4.70 gears ensure seamless power transfer to the Super Traxion tires, enabling unmatched off-road capability and performance.
The Jeep Willys Dispatcher Concept is a testament to Jeep’s commitment to blending heritage with innovation. With its timeless design cues and modern performance capabilities, it promises an exhilarating off-road experience while paying tribute to the legendary Jeep lineage.
