Jeep® Builds It’s 1,000th Grand Cherokee Armored For Mexican Market:

Last Friday, the Jeep® Mexico brand celebrated the production of the 1,000th Jeep Grand Cherokee Armored. The Grand Cherokee Armored, which is based on the Limited Luxury Advanced (also known as the Overland in the U.S. and Canada) 4×4 trim-level offers the perfect balance of elegance, performance, capabilities, and unmatched technology, equipped with NIJ-IIIA armor.

After being assembled at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant (JNAP) in Detroit, Michigan, the vehicles are then sent to the German Shields production line where they are equipped with NIJ-IIIA armor. The armor is developed and certified by the Engineering Department of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and German Shields under the highest safety and quality standards carried out in a 130,000 sq. ft. plant dedicated exclusively to the FCA Mexico-exclusive Grand Cherokee Armored.

The NIJ-IIIA level factory shielding complies with the US Standard NIJ-0108.01 and the Official Mexican Standard (NOM), which guarantees development with the highest safety standards. The armor is developed and certified by the Engineering Department of FCA and German Shields under the highest safety and quality standards.

The NIJ-IIIA Armor includes the following equipment…

• SHORT GUN PROTECTION – 22 LR HV 40 gr Lead / 38 Special 158 GR JSP / 9mm Parabellum 124 gr FML / 357 Magnum 158 GR JSP / 44 Magnum 240 gr SWC / 9mm Parabellum 124 gr FMJ.
• 19mm SHIELD – All glazed surfaces are 19mm thick and are made up of multilayers of polyvinyl as well as anti-corner layers. These materials are manufactured by the world’s leading glass shielding company “Isoclima”.
• ARMOR ARMOR – Protected with full armor and coverage against attacks from 0 ° to 90 ° thanks to the system with ballistic steel perimeter caps that protect the joints in the upper part of the vehicle, avoiding any ballistic gap. Likewise, the weight of the vehicle ensures a reduced increase thanks to the use of thermoformed fibers.
• 360 ARMOR – The greatest defense in the smallest detail. Run-flat tires, reinforced suspension, armored windows and windshield, anti-grenade bottom panel, engine protection, and window and frame reinforcements

Looking at the exterior, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Armored incorporates chrome power mirrors, dual exhaust with chrome tips, Bi-Xenon high-intensity headlights, LED fog lamps, LED taillights, a front fascia with chrome inserts, chrome grille, chrome roof rails, chrome door handles, and 20-inch Polished/Tech-Gray aluminum wheels.

Inside, the Grand Cherokee Armored is equipped with much of the equipment found on the Grand Cherokee Overland. Features like dual-zone climate control, Nappa seats with perforated inserts and ventilation, heated front and rear seats, 8-way power front seats, wood-style accents, LED interior lighting, customizable 7-inch thin-film-transistor (TFT) instrument cluster, telescoping steering wheel, universal garage door opener, 115-volt auxiliary jack, remote start, illuminated vanity mirrors, 8.4-inch Uconnect® touchscreen with Navigation, 9-speaker Alpine Premium Surround Audio with a 506-watt amplifier and a 10-inch subwoofer, active noise control, memory driver seat/mirrors/radio, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and leather-wrapped gear shifter.

To help push the added weight from the armor around, Jeep has put the 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 under the hood. It is mated to an 8-speed 8HP75 automatic transmission and makes 360 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. The Grand Cherokee Armored also features the legendary Jeep Quadra-Drive II 4×4 system and Selec-Terrain® System to help get occupants anywhere they desire.

The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Armored has a starting Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $1,850,900 pesos (or about $86,000 USD). The Grand Cherokee Armored fits in the lineup just below the supercharged Trackhawk model and is only available through Jeep Mexico dealers.
