Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) has officially secured a U.S. design patent for the Jeep® Avenger (JJ), a subcompact SUV that has gained significant traction in Europe. While the patent, filed on February 9, 2023, and granted on March 11, 2025, by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), does not confirm the Avenger’s arrival in North America, it raises speculation about the brand’s future plans. The design approval could simply be for licensing purposes—covering merchandise, toys, and video game use—but it also fuels discussions about whether Jeep’s smallest SUV could eventually join the North American lineup.

The Jeep Avenger, built on Stellantis’ Common Modular Platform (CMP), has been a massive success in Europe, even outselling the entire Alfa Romeo brand globally within the European market last year. Available in electric, hybrid, and gasoline variants, the Avenger offers an impressive mix of efficiency and capability. The all-electric model boasts a range of up to 248 miles (400 km), while the hybrid and gasoline versions cater to buyers who prefer traditional powertrains.

North American Jeep executives, including Stellantis Canada President Jeff Hines, have hinted at the Avenger’s potential in Canada. If it does make its way north, a U.S. debut would likely follow, especially given Jeep’s lack of a subcompact SUV following the discontinuation of the Renegade at the end of 2023. With affordability becoming a major factor in vehicle purchasing decisions, the Avenger could fill a crucial gap in Jeep’s lineup, offering buyers a budget-friendly, compact SUV with the brand’s signature rugged styling.

Despite the buzz, Jeep has yet to officially confirm any plans for the Avenger’s North American launch. However, with Stellantis actively reshaping its Jeep strategy to meet evolving market demands, the possibility remains on the table. Whether this patent is just a routine legal move or a precursor to a bigger announcement, one thing is certain—the conversation around the Avenger’s potential expansion isn’t going away anytime soon.
