Jeep® Adds Hurricane Twin-Turbo Power To Its Base Model Wagoneer

New Twin-Turbo Power Is Now Available For Ordering...

Jeep® has recently announced to its dealer network that the all-new twin-turbo 3.0-liter “Hurricane” I-6 S.O. (Standard Output) engine is now available for the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer Series I (WS) base trim, allowing customers to opt for a powerful and efficient engine over the standard 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 with eTorque. This marks a shift away from the HEMI as it becomes less environmentally friendly.

The twin-turbo 3.0-liter “Hurricane” I-6 S.O. engine boasts an impressive 420 horsepower and 486 lb-ft of torque, making it more powerful than many of its competitors’ naturally aspirated V-8 and boosted six-cylinder engines. Moreover, it achieves V-8-like performance while being up to 15% more efficient than larger engines. In fact, the Wagoneer’s Hurricane Twin Turbo engine can achieve up to 24 mpg highway, making it a more environmentally conscious choice for SUV buyers.

This cutting-edge engine employs state-of-the-art engineering and technologies, such as two low-inertia, high-flow turbochargers for rapid response to throttle inputs, plasma transfer wire arc (spray bore) coating in the cylinder bores for an ultra-thin, low-friction wear surface, and high-pressure (5,075 psi/350 bar) direct fuel injection. These technologies make the engine run smoothly and efficiently, while also reducing emissions.

The twin-turbo Hurricane S.O. engine will be priced at $58,995 for the two-wheel drive (4×2) and $61,995 for four-wheel drive (4×4), both in U.S. dollars and excluding the destination price.

Jeep’s decision to move away from the HEMI in favor of the Hurricane is driven by its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This forms part of Stellantis’ goal to cut its carbon footprint by 50% by 2030 and achieve Net Carbon Zero by 2038, making it a leader in sustainable mobility solutions.

I wonder if Jeep will offer anything like Ford's Expedition Timberline package for the Wagoneer. The standard output Hurricane is already there for hp.

Frankly the Hurricane engine is the salvation of Jeep, Dodge and Ram. I would never consider replacing my Jeep or Challenger without this option. Waiting for the Wagoneer S or next generation Cherokee and see if it’s offered. If not I’ll select a Grand Cherokee for a six. The Hemi Challenger is a keeper no matter the availability of the Hurricane in next generation. No electric for me. It’s Hurricane or nothing.

Its not far off as it is or may already be better than timberline. Series II Off Road won four wheeler of the year over the Tahoe Z71 and Sequoia TRD Pro.
