Hot Wheels Teams Up With Artist Daniel Arsham For New Eroded Series
One Of The First Models Is The 1973 Dodge Charger-Based "Rodger Dodger"...
Renowned contemporary artist Daniel Arsham has embarked on a groundbreaking collaboration with Mattel, Inc., reimagining a selection of iconic Hot Wheels 1:64-scale models and accessories. This unprecedented fusion of art and toy-making mastery, hosted on Mattel Creations, introduces a limited-edition series of meticulously crafted collectibles, each bearing Arsham’s distinctive touch. Among the chosen models, the beloved 1973 Dodge Charger-based “Rodger Dodger” is a testament to Arsham’s dedication to blending contemporary artistry with nostalgic craftsmanship.
As one of the most cherished castings from Hot Wheels, according to fans, the Rodger Dodger has left an indelible mark on collectors worldwide. Originally a modified 1973 Dodge Charger SE, the Rodger Dodger’s blown V8 engine emerging from the hood has become an iconic Hot Wheels diecast. Arsham’s reimagining of this iconic model elevates it to new heights, infusing it with his signature eroded aesthetic, creating a Rodger Dodger unlike any other.
In addition to the Rodger Dodger, Arsham’s collaboration with Hot Wheels extends to the Porsche 930 Turbo, paying homage to his affinity for Porsche vehicles.
To achieve the precision required for Arsham’s signature eroded details in 1:64-scale, Mattel Creations designers turned to Silkstone, a modern composite with a porcelain-like appearance previously employed in premium Barbie dolls. This collaboration marks the first use of Silkstone in manufacturing 1:64-scale cars, underscoring the pioneering nature of this project.
The collaboration unfolds in four distinct drops, or “Laps,” each revealing a new facet of Arsham’s imaginative reinterpretation. Lap One, debuting on October 27, showcases crystalized eroded versions of the Rodger Dodger. The inside of the Eroded Super Rally Case, exclusive to Lap One, features eight slots to house each vehicle from this extraordinary collaboration.
Designed with adult collectors in mind, this collaboration celebrates Arsham’s fascination with eroded versions of contemporary objects while paying homage to Hot Wheels’ rich history. The limited quantities and unique aesthetic make these collectibles a prized addition to any enthusiast’s collection.
