Jeep® Europe Unveils Its New Compass For EMEA Region:

New 80th Anniversary Model Highlights Lineup...

As the Jeep® brand continues to show off its updated global Jeep Compass, the EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) region got its chance to preview the new model this past Friday during the brand’s 80th Anniversary Event. The event marked the first time that the updated Compass was shown as an “80th Anniversary Edition” commemorative model. While the 2021 model year Jeep Compass in the North American market consists of the current version, the European, Indian, and Chinese-built 2021 models will consist of the new updated model.

The updated front styling of the new 2021 Jeep Compass, gives the vehicle a much richer appearance as the vehicle comes down the road. The new grille design features a more complex grille texture, as well as a new forward-facing camera for the new 360-degree camera system located in dead-center into the seven-slot grille. We can also see that the new grille design has also adopted the racked waterfall design of the upcoming 2022 Jeep Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer grille, something that will probably be adopted from the rest of the core Jeep lineup. This shows us the design direction that the Jeep design team is taking to take the seven-slot grille design further into the future.

The EMEA debut also shows us a new set of LED taillamps marking the first time the units have ever been shown off to the public.

What really stands out about the Compass update is the completely revamped interior. Originally thought to be a tablet-design for the infotainment system, is, in turn, the same 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system showcased on vehicles like the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica, 2021 Dodge Durango, and the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. Instead of being integrated into the instrument panel (I/P), this time the Compass features it in a new floating form.

The first new Jeep Compass model to be released for the European market will be the 80th Anniversary Edition. The commemorative model will feature special design cues that include ’80th Anniversary‘ badging enriched by low-gloss Granite Crystal accents, black leather seats with tungsten stitching and ’80th Anniversary‘ logo; interior high-gloss black accents and logo tag on seats and mats. There will also be a set of special 18-inch aluminum wheels as well. The new models will be coming to European dealers this spring.

The EMEA region models will still continue to feature gasoline, diesel, and plug-in hybrid powertrains options. The 80th Anniversary Edition models were shown in the popular electrified 4xe trim. The Compass 4xe integrates two electric motors and an 11.4 kWh battery pack, with a fuel-efficient 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and 6-speed automatic transmission. This architecture provides two cars in one – a battery-electric vehicle featuring an electric motor and a high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack on the rear axle and a conventional vehicle with an internal combustion engine (ICE) fitted on the front axle.

Two electric motors, one of which is located on the front axle and coupled to the ICE that, in addition to working in synergy with the engine, can act as a high-voltage generator, as it is necessary. The second motor is located on the rear axle and features reduction gear and integrated differential (also known as the “e-axle”). It delivers 60 horsepower and 250 Nm (or about 184 ft.-lb) of torque, generating traction and recovering energy while braking.
