Over the past couple of years, we have seen a number of Hellcat transplants in various vehicles ranging from pickup trucks to classic muscle cars. With the Mecum Indy auction underway, one of those builds went across the auction block this past weekend.
Transplanted into a 1972 Dodge Demon, the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI HELLCAT V8 replaces the classic 5.6-liter (340 cubic-inch) LA V8 engine that the Demon was known for. Sourced from a Dodge SRT Hellcat with less than 3,000 miles, the 707 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque supercharged powerplant makes 432 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque more than the engine it replaces.
To help put power to the ground, the Hellcat is mated to a General Motors (GM) sourced 4L80 four-speed automatic transmission. It has also been equipped with a set of Doug’s electric exhaust cut-outs to give the Hellcat a little more “growl”.
Being a 1972 Dodge Demon, gone are the dual hood scoops in favor of one center-mounted hood scoop with twin intakes. The classic Demon stripes are still there along the side of the car. With the rear trunk graphics being modified to incorporate a Hellcat-like cat onto them.
When the car crossed the auction block this past Saturday, it found a new home and sold for $50,600 USD. That’s about $13,000 cheaper than the base MSRP of a new 2022 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat (before taxes, delivery, and other fees). There is no doubt, that this car would catch more looks at local car meet than a new Hellcat model off the showroom floor.
