Gladiator Overland Continues To Offer European Customers Infinite Possibilities Of Summer!
Open-Air Experience, Off-Road Capability, & Looks...
The 2022 Jeep® Gladiator (JT) is the ideal vehicle for those who want to live their emotions in freedom, discover the infinite possibilities of summer, and enjoy them by embracing the Jeep lifestyle. In more than 80 years of history, Jeep has broken new ground and ushered in new segments and new technologies, with the first mass production of 4×4 vehicles and the introduction of the first SUV in 1949.
The first Jeep pickup dates back to 1947, and today the Jeep Gladiator represents an evolution of the original concept: a vehicle conceived for work that today combines its professional side with a lifestyle vocation, becoming the perfect companion for activities and adventures outside of the ordinary.
The Gladiator is a versatile vehicle that shares the DNA of the Jeep Wrangler (JL) in terms of unmatched off-road capability and open-air driving freedom. Its characteristic stylistic features that represent the Jeep philosophy make it a unique tool to fully experience the great outdoors. At the same time, it is a model that has been specifically designed and developed to be a 100% pickup and allow you to “go anywhere and do anything” thanks to advanced technological content, a powerful and efficient engine, practicality, and flexibility in cargo transportation.
In Europe, the Gladiator is available in only Overland trim in many markets. Select markets are available to get the Sport model.
Gladiator offers an attractive, spacious, and unparalleled performance. Gladiator offers up to 750 kg (1,650 lbs) of load capacity and a towing capacity of 2,721 kg (6,000 lbs). The cargo area is lined with non-slip material and equipped with an LED lighting system, a 230-volt waterproof external power socket, sturdy integrated bumpers, and offers a volume of 1,005 liters (35.5 cu. ft).
Thanks to the body-on-frame and five-point suspension, Gladiator guarantees benchmark 4×4 capabilities, while ensuring driving comfort on the road and high safety for passengers. In particular, the most advanced materials and engineering techniques have been used for the design of the stringers to be very light and at the same time rigid and resistant. The high-strength steel frame is 78.7 cm (31 inches) longer than a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, while the wheelbase is 49.2 cm (19 inches) longer. This last feature, combined with the positioning of the bodywork in a rearward position with respect to the center line of the rear axle, allows for better weight distribution and a smoother ride when carrying loads.
Added to all this is the unmistakable Jeep design, characterized by sculpted lines and traditional styling cues that have made the brand a global icon, in addition to the functional elements that have always characterized the Wrangler: from the circular headlights to the grille of seven slots, with slightly wider slots and slightly sloping grille, from the trapezoidal wheel arches to the visible hinges. Also the numerous possible solutions to live the adventure in the open air, such as the folding windshield or the different roof combinations that allow the customer endless configuration possibilities: three-panel hardtop, soft top, and no top.
The affinity with the Wrangler does not end with the aesthetic aspects: the Gladiator shares its DNA also in terms of unrivaled off-road capability, thanks to the Selec-Trac drive system, third-generation Dana 44 axles, and off-road-specific equipment. Therefore, it perfectly embodies the double soul of the Jeep brand: the most adventurous, thanks to technology tested for 81 years on the most inaccessible routes, and the most refined, which through the interior and exterior care with a strong personality, allows its SUVs to stand out even in the most exclusive and recognized contexts.
For European Overland models, LED headlights, taillights, and foglights are standard, providing an extremely crisp white light that makes the Gladiator look unmistakable. Obviously, the most sophisticated technology is not lacking, in terms of infotainment and safety: an Alpine audio system with subwoofer, portable wireless speaker, rechargeable on the move and completely waterproof, and the best of connectivity with the 8.4-inch UconnectTM 5 system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and features like Blind Spot Assist and Rear Object Detection, Forward Collision Warning Plus, Adaptive Cruise Control and ParkView Rearview Camera with Dynamic Grid.
The standard powerplant for the Euro-spec models will be the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6, which ditches the EcoDiesel branding for the “MultiJet” name. Power output is virtually identical to the North American version with 264 horsepower and 600 Nm (442 lb.-ft.) of torque. The Euro-spec diesel still offers Engine Start/Stop (ESS) and is paired to the 8HP75 8-speed automatic transmission. The 3.0-liter MultiJet V6 complies with Euro 6D final standards.
As Jeep continues to push forward with its electrification model across Europe, the current Gladiator will continue on until the 2025 model debuts with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) alternative. It then should become the replacement for the Multijet in the European Union (E.U.). Until then, the Gladiator continues to be the most capable, pickup in the European marketplace.
