FIAT’s Cronos Gets An Update Going Into The 2023 Model Year!

Argentina's Best-Selling Vehicle, Gets A Slight Update For New Model Year...

Since 2018, the Fiat Cronos (Project 358) has played a key role in the success of the FIAT brand in the Latin American (LATAM) market. The Cronos is the brand’s best-selling model in Argentina, selling more than 100,000 units since its launch. Due to its competitive pricing, attractive standard features, and appealing options list, the Cronos has captured more than 70% of the market share in the B-segment sedan category in the Argentine market.

For 2023, FIAT has updated the Cronos to better reflect its newest FIAT models in the brand’s LATAM portfolio. The 2023 Fiat Cronos offers a slight exterior restyling starting with incorporating the new corporate grille design with F-I-A-T text featuring new chrome accents. There are also several new wheel designs across the lineup, as well as a new exterior color (Sting-Gray) from the Jeep brand that offers a more pastel tone.

The popular S-Design Appearance Package returns for 2023 and offers a dark appearance to the vehicle. However, for 2023, the S-Design now features copper finishes instead of the traditional black ones from previous  S-Design packages.

Inside, the 2023 Fiat Cronos gets a new steering wheel design across all models. It appears to be the same unit share with its platform sibling, the new Fiat Pulse. The new steering wheel design features the same controls found on other Chrysler Group vehicles like the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger. There is also a new dark interior on the Precision trim models, and a redesigned center console to accommodate the new CVT automatic shifter.

When it comes to the powertrain, the efficient 1.3-liter “FIREFLY” or GSE-N4 inline-four-cylinder comes standard across the lineup. The non-turbocharged four-cylinder is part of the company’s Global Small Engine portfolio and features 100 horsepower (74 kW) and 134 N⋅m (99 lb.-ft.) of torque on gasoline. If ran on ethanol, the small engine is rated at 108 horsepower (80 kW) and 139 N⋅m (103 lb.-ft.) of torque.

Also new for 2023, is the addition of a 7-speed CVT automatic transmission, developed in conjunction with Aisin (one of the most prestigious companies in this field), which uses two variable pulleys connected by a metal belt immersed in maintenance-free oil. This solution offers maximum smoothness and comfort for the driver without compromising the performance and efficiency of the whole. The CVT also allows for a new “Sport” mode function that allows changing the acceleration parameters and gear shifting management to provide better driving sensations.

A 5-speed manual transmission is standard across most of the lineup, with the exception of the Precision model.
