Fiat has introduced its first hybrid models to the Brazilian market, adapting to the growing demand for environmentally friendly options. The 2025 Fiat Fastback and Pulse B-segment crossovers now come equipped with Stellantis’ new T200 Hybrid engine, designed to balance performance and energy efficiency while reducing fuel consumption. This engine is based on the FCA-based Global Small Engine (GSE) family and combines the power of ethanol with hybrid technology, uniquely suited to the Brazilian energy landscape.
A Legacy of Innovation –
Fiat has a history of introducing revolutionary technology in Brazil, from the first mass-produced ethanol car, the Fiat 147, to its popular entry-level models like the Uno. The brand’s success in Brazil is evident from its four consecutive years as a market leader. Now, Fiat is stepping into hybrid technology, starting with its popular SUV lineup, the Fastback, and the Pulse, which have seen over 250,000 units produced in Brazil since their respective launches.
Introducing the T200 Hybrid Engine –
The T200 Hybrid engine is the highlight of Fiat’s new models, offering drivers an enhanced driving experience with lower emissions and improved fuel economy. The T200 Hybrid is a turbocharged 1.0-liter inline-three-cylinder engine capable of producing 130 horsepower and 20.4 kgfm (148 lb-ft) of torque. It combines the power of ethanol and electricity to create a fuel-efficient engine without sacrificing performance. Equipped with a 7-speed CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission), this engine boasts the title of the most powerful 1.0-liter turbo in its class.
In city driving, the hybrid Fastback model reduces fuel consumption by 11.5% when using gasoline (9.8% with ethanol). The Pulse hybrid improves fuel efficiency by 10.7% with gasoline and ethanol. These fuel savings contribute to Fiat’s goal of making hybrid technology more accessible to Brazilian consumers.
How Fiat’s Hybrid System Works –
The hybrid technology includes a 12-volt e-motor that doubles as an alternator and a starter. It supports the combustion engine by delivering additional torque, reducing fuel consumption. This system is powered by two batteries—one lead-acid and one lithium-ion—that work together to keep the vehicle’s electrical systems running efficiently.
Fiat’s hybrid system operates in four main modes:
- e-Start & Stop: Automatically shuts off the engine at stops, restarting it seamlessly when needed.
- e-Assist: Provides additional electric torque during acceleration, reducing the load on the combustion engine.
- Smart Alternator: Charges the batteries based on demand, maximizing efficiency.
- e-Regen: Captures and stores energy that would otherwise be lost during braking, contributing to up to 25% more efficiency.
Enhanced Driving Experience with New Digital Interface –
To help drivers manage fuel efficiency, Fiat has included a new digital interface on the dashboard. The Impetus models come with a 7-inch digital panel, while the Audace versions feature a 3.5-inch panel. These displays show real-time data about fuel savings, energy use, and the vehicle’s hybrid system status, helping drivers make the most of the new technology.
Features of the 2025 Fiat Fastback –
The Fastback 2025 maintains its sporty design and practical features, including a 10.1-inch multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, and a wireless phone charger. With an impressive ground clearance of 192 mm (7.5 inches), the Fastback offers city-friendly handling while capable of light off-road use.
Available in two trims, Audace and Impetus, the Fastback’s color palette now includes the exclusive Amalfi Blue. Prices for the hybrid Fastback start at R$151,990 ($30,040 USD) for the Audace and go up to R$161,990 ($31,990 USD) for the Impetus.
The 2025 Fiat Pulse Hybrid: Compact Yet Capable –
The Fiat Pulse, launched in 2021, is Fiat’s first compact SUV made specifically for the Brazilian market. With its hybrid upgrade, the 2025 Pulse maintains its bold design and high-tech features, including LED headlights, a high bumper for improved entry angles, and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) on the Impetus trim. The hybrid Pulse starts at R$125,990 ($24,880 USD) for the Audace and R$140,990 ($27,840 USD) for the Impetus.
Moving Toward a Greener Future with Stellantis –
Fiat’s entry into the hybrid market is part of Stellantis’ larger Bio-Hybrid initiative. Through 2030, an investment of R$32 billion ($6.4 billion USD) is planned to develop sustainable mobility solutions for Brazil and South America. The Betim Automotive Center in Brazil is the development hub for this technology, underlining Stellantis’ commitment to affordable, low-emission vehicles.
As Fiat continues to lead the charge in Brazil’s automotive market, its new hybrid models represent a significant step toward accessible, sustainable mobility for all.
