Roadster Shop Built An Amazing Hellcat-Powered 1968 Dodge Power Wagon:

Hellcat Power, Classic Looks, Modern Off-Roader...

Over the past couple of years, we have seen numerous resto-mod vehicles using Mopar’s supercharged 6.2-liter HELLCrate HEMI V8. We have seen a Jeep® Wagoneers, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Chargers, and other various Mopars. But one Illinois-based customizer has taken the Hellcat power to a 1968 Dodge Power Wagon in a recent build.

Roadster Shop, which is known for its chassis fabrication and building some amazing muscle car and street rods, might have created the ultimate sleeper off-roader. Starting with the company’s RS4 platform which was developed to house a number of vehicle bodies like the 1962 to 1991 Jeep Wagoneer, 1965 to 1971 Dodge D-Series pickups, 1947 to 1954 Chevrolet Advance Design pickups, and 1966 to 1977 Ford Bronco.

Unlike the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX performance off-roader, this Hellcat-powered pickup is made for slow off-roading.

The RS4 Platform is made up of some of the best off-roading hardware out there. It starts with a heavy-duty frame adding a lot of strength compared to the stock chassis. Some of the off-road goodies used include FOX™ Factory Race Series coilovers, Currie Dana 44 front and Dana 60 rear differentials, a set of Baer high-performance brakes, Currie 60 VXR axles with 1-ton knuckles, and an Atlas 2-speed transfer case.

The 707 horsepower Hellcat HEMI V8 is mated to a 4L80 4-speed automatic transmission. No ZF-sourced 8-speed here! To help put the power to the ground is a set of 37-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM3 tires wrapped around 18-inch Forgeline OE1 wheels which mimic factory steel wheels.

Despite its patina exterior looks, this Power Wagon has been completely revamped and updated with an onboard ARB compressor, a WARN winch in the front bumper, a set of front-mounted KC lights, and even power-folding running boards. A toolbox was put in the back, for that true farm truck look. Unless you look directly at the truck’s suspension, it looks like a run-of-the-mill 1968 Dodge Power Wagon when it is out and about.

Inside is where this Power Wagon really shines. Looking like a standard 1968 Dodge Power Wagon interior, there are modern touches throughout the cabin. Touches of wood and stainless steel on the dash and door panels, don’t look too overdone and is nothing like you would see on today’s luxury pickups. The Power Wagon’s bench seat has been redone to feature a genuine cowhide across it, making this truck feel just like a work truck. Of course, there are a few modern things like a set of Autometer gauges to help the driver check on the Hellcat engine and speed while out on the trail or the street and even a Kicker sound system cleverly hidden for view.

Unfortunately, this truck isn’t for sale. However, the Roadster Shop would be happy to sell you one of their RS4 Platforms. The RS4 Platform starts at about $36,495 USD. While an actual build may cost well north of $100,000, we have seen people purchasing 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Launch Edition as much of $150,000 so a build like this doesn’t seem totally crazy.
