Dodge Is Using Irish Folklore To Build Up To Its Move To Electrification

Teaser Isn't Just About Reveal Being Close To St. Patrick's Day...

Dodge has just released its first full video teaser for the seventh and final 2023 “Last Call” special-edition model. The teaser, titled “Runnin’ Hyde,” suggests a powerful metamorphosis at the core of the ultimate Dodge special-edition vehicle.

The video features a leprechaun receiving an intravenous (IV) therapy of a fluid that appears to be fuel, transforming him into a taller, meaner creature. While some may think the leprechaun is a nod to the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day holiday, the teaser suggests a deeper symbolism.

In Irish folklore, the leprechaun is a hot-tempered and spiteful character who steals from the poor and grants twisted wishes to those who capture him. This story is linked to the upcoming electrified 800-volt performance architecture that will replace the HELLCAT, named after the Banshee, a fairy known for her loud scream signaling death.

In the 25-second teaser video, the leprechaun’s eyes change from red (likely symbolizing the HELLCAT Redeye) to yellow, reflecting the new creature’s persona. Additionally, Dodge has unveiled a new logo in anticipation of the upcoming Roadkill Nights Vegas event, where the new car will be launched. The new logo features a fierce character with yellow eyes covered by an old-style nitro drag racing mask, similar to the one worn by the Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 Angry Bee logo. It is believed that this logo will be featured on the final “Last Call” car.

Sources indicate that the upcoming special edition Challenger will be fueled by E85, resulting in a boosted output of 909 horsepower. It is worth noting that Dodge’s Direct Connection parts can already increase the power of the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI® HELLCAT H.O. V8 (also known as Redeye) to 885 horsepower, making the 909 horsepower figure seem plausible.

We’ll need to wait for next week’s teaser to get additional clues, but it’s clear that Dodge is turning to Irish folklore figures to promote its latest internal combustion engine (ICE) as it transitions towards electrification.

We only hope that Dodge also might have something unique like the return of a certain special edition color in mind.
