Report: Jeep Grand Cherokee To Gain New Powertrain For 2025

Stellantis has been overhauling its engine offerings across its brand portfolios in response to increasingly stringent C.A.F.E. regulations. Now, according to our sources, the 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s powertrain is slated to receive significant updates. A Shift Toward Efficiency Since its introduction, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has been synonymous with rugged capability and power. The Grand Cherokee L model, a three-row variant introduced in the 2021 model year, offered a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and a more robust 5.7-liter Hemi V8 engine. Following its debut, the 2022 model year saw the introduction of a two-row version, which included the 2.0 turbocharged … (read full article...)

There is some hope that the motors and battery capacity will improve for the 2025 2L 4xE refresh.

Disappointing. I currently have a rental 2024 WL L with the V6. It is sluggish and loud. Maybe the upper trim levels would be quieter? We have a 2011 WK2 V8 Overland. While old and I'd like a new car, it is a better driving vehicle than the 2024 rental. I've rented the WL hybrids, they seem to drive better than the 2023 WL L V6, but I'd have test them on the same day to be sure.
Maybe it a extra weight associated to the L or 3rd row... Our WL74 is a order of magnitude better driver than our WD.

Not sure who is making decisions on the new powertrain for the upcoming 2026 JGC but if it has a 4 banger you just lost your faithful to Jeep. I know some will say they have the 4xe but that has a lot of problems. If anything rework the pentastar V6 to handle more power and be more efficient. That block could easily handle in the range of 325 to 340 hp and 360 to 385 ft-lbs and with the engine development nowadays IT CAN BE DONE. I think that would be a better play on your best seller. And you would actually gain customers who like the JGC but won’t buy due to the lack of Horsepower which most people want. Use the new redesign Pentastar for the base JGC from the Laredo up to the Altitude X. This would be the only option! Use this engine as base for the Limited and Overland this would be for the 5 seater but offer the turbo inline 6 as an upgrade. The Summit and Summit Reserve will just get the baseline turbo inline 6 with the upgrade to the H.O. Inline 6. I like the new upgrade to the inside and front fascia but yes the powertrain issue will be your downfall if offered with a 4 banger. You have many choices of material to use when it comes to making engine blocks, from gray cast iron to aluminum alloy to composite graphite iron. Now some will say and I know that the composite graphite iron is for diesel engines but it does allow for higher horsepower and torque if they wanted to stick to a 4 banger. And with the way engineering is nowadays these people can figure it out and a way to make it fuel efficient. I might be wrong on some of this and maybe all of it but it doesn’t hurt to throw out ideas. I love my 2023 JGC 4x4 Limited with the Pentastar V6 and it does what I need it to do. Yes I wish it had more power and torque but it’s better than most. I have about 7 months left on my lease and I was hoping the new 2026 will be out by then as I want to upgrade to a Overland or a Summit. But if the 4 banger is the choice then I go elsewhere for my next vehicle. You don’t want to listen to you base then we depart ways.

This is my ride. 7 month left on my 3 year lease then I want to upgrade. Either to an Overland or a Summit! 3 years and it’s only been in the shop 2 times 1 software update and a battery replacement after 3 months. Bad battery was installed at the manufacturer and went dead after 3 months. Since the fixes no other problems!
