REPORT: Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Banshee Is DEAD!

Stellantis has been moving fast, and this time, it’s not toward full electrification.

In a series of surprising moves over the past six months, Stellantis has reversed course on what once seemed like an inevitable march toward an all-electric future. The 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 has made a thunderous return to the 2026 Ram 1500 lineup, the Dodge Durango will be offered exclusively with HEMI power in the U.S. for 2026, and Jeep® not only confirmed the continuation of the 6.4-liter HEMI V8-powered Wrangler Rubicon 392 but also teased that a Gladiator variant is in development. It’s a stark contrast to the company’s earlier strategy, which aimed to replace nearly every engine with a battery pack.

This Generation of Charger is more of a modern interpretation of the 1969-73 full size Dodges than for any past vehicles which were labeled as a Charger. The car is very wide and that width and length add weight.

Now that Direct Connection is offering a supercharger kit for the Ram pickup, Dodge should put together a Miller Cycle Hemi Hybrid option for the Charger. The hardware is there, a blower plus the ZF 8-speed which is readily adapted to hybrid use. The 400V electrical architecture for battery electric is available for use with the hybrid transmission and battery pack.

I think the Six Pack will weigh around 4800lbs. They are more of a crossover/muscle car blend, they’re a bit of an oddity. They don’t just fit the sedan/coupe mold, with the hatchback and AWD tossed in

I will say, last week I finally saw not one, but two of them on the road (Daytona) one red and one black. My god, the red is a looker, just stunning. Ugh, I want to love it and hate it all at the same time, as I think stylistically it’s above almost anything on the market, globally, but it’s not as aggressively beautiful as the old model.

My source is the Stellantis media website. Stellantis Media - 2026_DG_Charger_SIXPACK_SP.pdf

Here is a quote from the 2026 Charger press kit:
Widebody Muscle Design – Widest Body of Any Car in the Industry
The new Dodge Charger exterior is unmistakable – pure Dodge muscle inspired by heritage, driven by performance. The next-generation Dodge Charger SIXPACK-powered models feature a modern, muscular widebody exterior design with a unique hood, front fascia/grille and exhaust.

It seems when you build a car on a truck platform you get these number. However the market place has spoken and the EV Charger is dead. Will a 5.7 Hemi V8 power make a sales difference ? I'm sure sales will rise from the dead until performance figures tell the tale ? The Asian fan boys will have a stop light blast. But with our economy sliding into a recession, high interest rates, and tight money it's a bad omen for auto sales regardless.
