Production Tonale!!!

I've just checked. BMW X1 starts form 33k euros in Italy while Audi Q3 starts from 35k euros. I think that Tonale could be a little cheaper but who knows.

So far based on official plans FCA will use more expensive P2 48V MHEV systems for their FWD based cars. How much it costs? For example currently on its RWD models FCA is offering BSG 48V MHEV and is charging around $1000 for it while production may cost around $500.

I will not exclude a possibility where all Tonale versions will come as MHEV. That would be nice. Of course MHEV is usually offered only with automatic transmission.

Speaking about future Fiat models. I don't know what's coming. FCA is very shy about it. From what I've heard SUV models are priority but it seems that both Turkey and Serbia want one. Who knows, maybe we'll get both in addition to a new generation of 500X.
I would like to see Fiat B segment CUV. Something similar in size to a new generation of Peugeot 2008 and Renault Captur. Both grew in size. FWD only models with no independent rear suspension. IMO such model in Fiat line up could replace 500L.
For new 500X I would like slightly larger car with lower height which will take on VW T-Roc.

In any case future of FCA FWD based SUV models in Europe is related to a Small Wide platform and its forks.

Apparently, the Panda will remain in Pomigliano until 2023.

I could see a B-SUV being built in Serbia instead of the 500L, a C3 Aircross competitor. As for Turkey, if that refers to Tofas maybe thy could build a C-SUV there.

Well, depends on the price! If a compact cars costs 40.000 € upwards the air is getting thin for big sales. :p

But it looks like they intend to make the MHEVs pretty mainstream instead of some high up options.

Exactly. That's a great move in my opinion.

This could be the final engine list (at least for Europe).

Petrol/Gasoline:
  • 1.3 GSE T4 150 PS
  • 1.3 GSE T4 MHEV 190 PS
  • 1.3 GSE T4 MHEV 240 PS, 180 PS ICE + 60 PS electric, 11 kWh battery
  • 2.0 GME T4 HO MHEV 330 PS

Diesel:
  • 2.0 MJT MHEV 190 PS
  • 2.0 MJT MHEV 220 PS

All engines except a base petrol/gasoline should be available with AWD.

I hope 2.0 GME MHEV makes it to the US.

Looks good! But I think they should add some base versions to get better sales:
GSE with 120 PS – currently Giulietta's only power level
MJT with 150 and/or 120 PS – even Giulia starts at 150

As for the launch date, does SOP (Start of production) mean the first customer car (aka Job 1)? There are stories that pre-production will start after summer 2020.

For power levels look at competition.

BTW Tonale is not Giulietta's replacement.

Yes.

Not sure about it. It would be nice if it's true. But than it depends if preproduction is a VP (Process Verification) or PS (pre-series). VP is usually 10 months before Job 1 while PS is just 4 months before Job 1.

I know, there is NO Giulietta replacement. But Tonale is Alfa's only product in C segment and the brand entry for a while. Oh, the B SUV that's coming 12-18 months after it won't be G's replacement either. Giulietta's replacement for most people is called Golf or 1er. :p

Shouldn't the process installation happen for the Geneva show cars already (if that doesn't get postponed)? Could fit: VP in 02-2020, pre-series in 09-2020, SOP in 12-2020.

I can't remember exactly but from what I've heard the worst case scenario for Job 1 is 7/2021 or 9/2021.

I know what FCA has promised to some. That's more optimistic. But they always do it to sales channel.

Pietro Gorlier who is COO for EMEA region would like to see starts of Tonale's sales soon as possible.

B segment SUV is for a lot of people replacement for Giulietta. Similar price point.
AFAIK we are talking about similar product to VW T-Roc or Audi Q2. FCA already has similar product with current generation of 500X.
So yes, I'm expecting from it to be a short wheelbase Tonale.

Only model for which I've never heard of is new Giulietta.
Various Coupes, E segment sedans, SUV, and also B segment SUV were always under consideration.
Bus maybe they never had suitable platform for its replacement. I don't know.
