Jeep's All-New Adventure Off-Roader Makes Its Official Debut

Jeep® just dropped one of its biggest reveals of the year at the Los Angeles Auto Show, pulling the covers off the 2026 Recon (EJ). Now that the curtains have been pulled back, the world finally gets a full look at Jeep’s first fully electric, Trail Rated SUV engineered specifically for real off-road duty—not just electric vehicle (EV) novelty.

I take it that the CEO's on the Jeep side of Stellantis must have missed the public flogging and crucifixion that DODGE JUST WENT THROUGH FOR RELEASING AN ALL ELECTRIC VEHICLE FIRST ON THIS SAME PLATFORM WITHOUT HAVING AN ICE OPTION FOR PEOPLE TO ACTUALLY BUY!!!!!! Did they miss the memo that Carlos Tavares is gone so we can go back to actually making vehicles with powertrains that people want as well as EVs and we can release them first? Did they not see the new Ram Symbol of Protest on the sides of the Hemi trucks? What happened?

Let's be real here. Beautiful design, really is, just like the Wagoneer S. Both vehicles are poorly named and need ICE and hybrid variants, but that goes for the entire Jeep lineup.
New Cherokee - should be Jeep Renegade
New Recon - should be Jeep Cherokee
Wagoneer S- should be Grand Cherokee
Jeep Grand Cherokee - should be Grand Wagoneer and have only the 3-row option.

All four vehicles should be on the STLA: Large platform with three powertrain choices
Hurricane-4 ICE powertrain w/ ZF 8hp Gen-4 in AWD config
Hurricane-4 Hybrid Powertrain w/ ZF 8hp Gen-4 EVO Plug in hybrid config
400v dual motor 650hp AWD powertrain

above that Jeep's frame vehicles should be
full size Grand Wagoneer - permanently discontinued
Wrangler - 4 door only, Hurricane I-6 powertrains only, AWD, no hybrid, no V8 options
Gladiator- Same as Wrangler

All of this and Jeep needs a massive customization catalog for all of this.

The Recon will be going up against the Scout which offers an EREV drivetrain. The Audi version of the Scout is rumored to be very Range Rover like and will also offer an EREV option.

The Recon has the looks down straight. It seems Jeep didn't cheap out on the suspension either. Unfortunately it has arrived with yesterday's battery pack. I don't blame Jeep for debuting the Recon with the battery electric drive. The new Hurricane 4 isn't available yet. The 1.6 liter would make a great range extender, but the priority for a range extended EV is with the Grand Cherokee and Ram REV models.

I'm intrigued by the gear reduction on the rear e-axle, it sounds very much like the setup on the new Euro Compass.
