Hurricane for RAM and GC

Hurrican Cat3 is ungrade from the 6.4 from a performance perspective. They have the Alpha Appex Truck in the TRX... Sports trucks are for companies that don't have Nasty Cars like the Charger. Ram trucks will fall in the pecking order purely from capacity as the Classic is discontinued.

I'll be running my 4th gen into the ground, if there is no 6.4 option and no true hybrid (etorque doesn't count). BEV and range extending BEV are not interesting to me as near-term purchases.
Instead of dumping my 4th gen truck, I turned it into a stroker. I'm planning to keep the HEMI's in my garage as long as I can.

Mine is in the shop now for 150k maintenance, which is late spark plugs (1st time being changed) and to resolve a leaking water pump gasket/seal. I have considered more mods but can quite justify the expense.

The durango and ram hemis will be in my garage as well for the foreseeable future.

yes, but there is no reason they shouldn't have both as optional. the 6.4 should have been added either in 2019 with the start of the 5th gen or in 22ish. Especially if the I6 hurricane is still years away from ram (2024?)

Why? Not sure the payback other than it is cool. An No you don't offer both, I Cat3 is superior in every way but exhaust note.

Because nothing will ever beat the reliability of a naturally aspirated engine. Most truck owners do not want turbos.

You are the only individual on this forum, amongst a group of Hemi owners, who is asking for a lower displacement/turbo engine.

For the reasons explained in my initial post #40. None of us can be sure of the the payback ? now that it was never done. I'll maintain it could/should have been added with very minimal additional costs back in 2019, and as hurricane is not coming now for a few more years to ram, should have been added in 22/23 at the wagoneer spec.

You can keep saying cat3 hurricane is superior in every way and i'll continue to not disagree with you :) but it is not in a ram yet and wont be for how many years?

I own a 6.4.... where besides exhaust note is it better? Sorry I misread what you said. Yeah its a better powerplant.

Its not many years it is as capacity ramps up the Hemi volume ramp down, I would guess a model year away, I pretty sure there are some complaince issue with Hemi that are going to drive this. The question is will the capacity be used for the Charger or Challenger. They keep acting like those a BEV only and there no way, they are giving up all that volume, and they cannot put a Hemi in those or they will cause another pull the bandaid situation.

What we mainly disagree with is what value has in RAM. I say zero. Performance oriented customers aren't that interested in Sports trucks, They can buy a Charger or Challenger. THe only value it would have would be in a Sub-Trx,

The Hurricane is 1-2mpg improvement over the HEMI and about 150 or 400lb less towing capability than the HEMI versions it's replacing.

Yes, it has a better horsepower and torque, but not where the truck's needed.

Is it worth an upgrade or replacement of the HEMI in Ram, Wagoneer or Grand Wagoneer?
Personally and considering the price premium and the performance, I'd stick with the HEMI if I'm buying a truck.

When it comes to the Challenger and Charger, we'll have to wait and see how Dodge's going to tune the engine.

Price Premium is not a cost Premium that turns upside down as capacity ramps up. And in real world testing both engines have been full second quicker, both 0-60 and quarter mile, the GW nearly as quick as a Scat Pack.

single head engines are less complex and are cheaper to make in long run.

I have only been able to find C&D had done various test conditions for both engines of the GW, HEMI and Hurricane.
From the stand still, Hurricane is faster by more than half a second, but the Hurricane runs out of breath by the end of the quarter mile. When you accelerate from 5-, 15-, or 30-mph, both engines are equal.

So no, Hurricane isn’t showing a big advantage over the HEMI, especially the 6.4l

If the now-dead-rumored 7.0l came to reality, l’m willing to bet all the above mentioned advantages of the Hurricane would have been realized by the big displacement HEMI.
Hech, even if some of the bolt-on parts of that engine were to be used to update the 6.4l, we’d have seen an improvement.

But, the European management didn’t like and don’t understand the American love for the big V8.

Marspeed, spent more time researching it then you and found a full second on both which is giant, given 6500lb brick. so yeah its a big advantage even a half second is a big deal.

They have regulatory realities to deal with and we love fast V8 which basically have run out, we don't like getting embarrassed by another powerplant. No way I am spending more for gas and ultimately more for the engine because of regulatory cost to be SLOWER.

0-60 is certainly one metric to use when comparing these cars but racing isn't the sole reason these cars are bought and most owners that will race these cars will work on them to get more power. The other factor is driving aesthetic - instant torque power without turbo lag, V8 rumble etc, which I would argue is what enthusiasts are more chaffed about losing than 0-60 times. Why is Dodge trying so hard to tune the exhaust on the Charger EV? To give a muscle car aesthetic and vibe - and quite frankly its not working and not going to work. Also, I6's don't sound great in comparison to V8's and real world MPG doesn't seem to be improved enough to justify the smaller turbo cars in most loyalists minds. Personally I think the way that they make up for the short comings is creating a production car that doesn't sacrifice the great design and practicality of the concept. Looks in combo with practicality, performance and MPG will make up for losing the V8 I think.

Still waiting for the '24 1500 truck and engine availability and updates/engine choices. One part of me wants to go ahead and custom order a '23, the other part wants to wait and see what's new. I like the I6 420 h.p. on paper but wonder if there will be huge update to truck otherwise. It looks to be the 6th Generation, 5th gen was in 2019 with cosmetic and cab changes since. Stellantis holding close to the vest, suppose they want to clear out '22 and 23' inventory.

They better start putting cash on the hoods of them, they are spilling over with inventory around here

apparently, the Rams are getting Pilot mileup testing now so should only be a few months. I would love that job. Old responsible guys like me get to drive the cool stuff..... I am only close to Cummins so I guess I am out of luck unless I want to move to metro Detriot.

Is the Pilot testing just a shakedown of models to be released soon? Surely the '24 RAMs have been in a test phase for awhile even before the engine introduced on the Wagoneer. Need a new truck and holding out for news.
