EU Backpedals on 2035 ICE “Ban” With a New 90% CO₂ Target

EU Backpedals on 2035 ICE “Ban” With a New 90% CO₂ Target

A Big Rules Rewrite, Not A Full U-Turn

Europe just put a major “reset button” on one of the most talked-about automotive deadlines in the world: the EU’s 2035 requirement that all new cars and vans be zero-emissions at the tailpipe. In a new proposal that still needs approval from EU governments and the European Parliament, the European Commission would replace the effective 2035 zero-emissions requirement with a target calling for a 90% cut in CO₂ emissions from 2021 levels instead of 100%.

I wonder if there will be any spill over to our shores from this. The Jeep Recon and Wagoneer S were introduced as pure battery electric to satisfy the EU regulators. Perhaps this rules rewrite may spur the Stellantis suits to equip these models with ICE range extenders. With all the advancements in range extended EV technology these past few years, Jeep has the opportunity to turn these losers into winners.

It might be too late for Abarth, the EU regulations killed that brand.

With Chevron, Valaro, and 76 all pulling out of California by 28' and closing their refineries....... the people of the People Republic of California likely will still need the Recon and Wagoneer.

How freaken hard is it to product plan when you regulators are Schizophrenic ....... yes the market realities are against EVs as a direct replacement. Yes you likely killing hundreds of thousands of local jobs for jobs in Asia............ But that isn't new.... Ya knew that from the start. Let the EV market develop organically and it would be better for everyone.

As I sit and watch the years and decades roll by, it is quite comical to see the "green" rules and goalposts continually changed as leaders realize how unfeasible their promises are. There isn't enough money to pay for what they want to do, and middle class citizens are growing increasingly unwilling to shoulder the burden.

If these car companies would just go back to building higher quality, simple, affordable vehicles again and tell the governments to stick a sock in it, we would all be much better off.

To add fuel to the WXman fire, the staggering financial and governmental damage done by adherents to the debunked woke agenda is criminal. Indeed, it is the predominate middle class, right of center masses that have to right this ship. The first battle has been won (so far) in the global free market where once again the forces on the elite left have been proven as arrogant, control freaks and zealots who have failed miserably, once again, because frankly, they an’t that smart.
This initial forced shift in regulation policy is a begrudging bump in their forever failing agenda. It is all about greed, power and control as it has been for centuries. Time for it to become a brick wall.
Are we all not sick of it already?
Revolutionary thoughts must be put to rest but the battle of wills continues and the next battle will need to be fought in the next US national election by the masses through some self education on this situation by the casual voting observers and then in November, by informed voting for candidates who support the automotive regulatory changes now undertaken by the current administration. It really is not political or revolutionary at all, it’s common sense policy and the necessary respect for hard working people around the world. Hopefully it becomes bipartisan and amicable.
If this is a fire underway it needs more than kindling to put freedom back in the marketplace loving people hands, it will also take some more time and a marketplace fortitude by the automotive buying public that engenders more changes in an industry makeover that the public needs. This battle of wills must put real wood on this fire in showroom disciplined buying. Me, I’m sticking to gas.
Count this post as my log, my brick. Won’t you all add a log or a brick or two?

If the range extended Scout takes off, I got an idea....
