Compass Refresh is pretty impressive... climbs upscale

I think they did a great job on this, really nice to see all the technology and features "trickle down" from the nicer models.

The only thing that I would change is to have physical heated/cooled seat and heated steering wheel buttons, like we see in the new WL.

The article brings up a good point. From the rear/side, it looks like the "older" one, like the new Durango refresh.

So ... what's the size difference between this and Cherokee?

And more importantly, will my head still hit the roof when I sit in the driver seat?

The 3-row version of the Compass was given the green light for production in Brazil for the Latin American market. Has anyone seen this model? I know we won't get the Latin American Compass. Our Compass comes from Toluca and that version hasn't been seen or announced. I just wonder if we will get any version of the longer Compass.

I suspect the current Cherokee is on borrowed time, so any overlap in its size or market position is moot. I have know idea what will replace it, just wishful thinking.

what is your time scale for borrowed time... Since KM is 2022 launch I would guess. And that plant is not scheduled for redo.

I would guess the the time overlap between the arrival of our market's Compass refresh and a replacement of the Cherokee would be about 18 months. Plant upgrades are required for hybrid drivetrain installation. If the next Cherokee is to be electrified, my guess is that there would have to be some upgrades to the production lines.

I haven't heard of a full carrier change for a new platform.... someone correct me otherwise so the Cherokee has at least 5 to 6 years.

So KM is more of a refresh on the current platform?

Well it getting a new Code so it not a Refresh... It a overhaul. On the same Carriers....... Unless someone has heard otherwise. Carriers are unchanged. I know I get wonk'ish about this and apologize but the carrier is literally the platform.

Overall dimensions the same, but I wonder if we'll see a new front-end? KL has a really long nose because it needed to accommodate the Pentastar. Maybe if it shifts to using I4 and I6 engines only, that could be reduced considerably. To me, that's the biggest problem with KL as a "Jeep".

With a boxier rear, maybe extended a couple of cm, KM could easily fill the gap between Compass and WL74.

Thanks, "refresh" wasn't the right word for me to use (that's what the 2019 design update was) but I couldn't think of a better word at the time. No worries on clarifying platform/carrier/etc (y)

What I meant was it likely won't be a mind blowing clean page redesign, with a RWD bias. However, a hybrid option, updated uconnect is likely for KM.

Sounds good to me

I'd love to see it with a RWD bias, and an NA I6 hybrid, but I doubt that will happen.

RWD bias is just programming.

I myself RWD dynamics. The rotational inertia the same as the drivetrain.

When FCA updates production lines for battery installation, a "rotisserie" has been added. I believe Toledo was the first. Melfi was similarly updated for the PHEV Jeep Compass and Renegade. BTW, the "rotisserie" is not just used for battery or other EV features, it is useful for other installations as well. There is no hard and fast rule the line must be changed for electrified drivetrains, but it seems to be FCA's standard procedure. That I know of the carriers did not change, so yes, in that sense it is the same platform.
