3L I6 Tornado Hybrids for Cherokee (KM), Grand Cherokee (WL74), and Grand Cherokee L (WL75), Wagoneer and Wagoneer L (WS) are a go

"Motor Trend asked Christian Meunier and Jim Morrison about the future of the Cherokee, and both of them confirmed that a redesign is currently in the works. “Bigger and better than ever” is Morrison’s take on the newcomer.
Meunier added that “a lot of electrification” is planned for the Cherokee, which is the way to go due to increasingly draconic regulations for emissions and fuel economy. A bigger electrified Cherokee isn’t all there is to the sixth gen because Jeep is likely to expand the Wagoneer brand.
Sources told Mopar Insiders that “another smaller Wagoneer vehicle will be added to the mix sometime in 2024 or 2025. That vehicle will be based on the next-generation Cherokee (KM),” and even though specifics aren’t known at press time, the STLA Large platform is rumored for the KM." - autoevolution

IMO Cherokee should mimic the 4runner line up SR5, TRD Off road, Limited, TRD PRO etc, not everyone wants a wrangler, you can see that by Bronco sales, those things are everywhere around here. (Real ones, not the fwd one) 4runners too!

Yeah, agreed.

Hard pass on a BEV for me.
 
Why the surprise? The new six will be applied wherever it can be as soon as it can be. Best news is on the Cherokee, a direction I have been calling for ongoing on this site. As a two time Cherokee owner, through long term satisfying experience the current Cherokee it’s a well engineered vehicle. But as much as I like it, I believe a totally redesigned, slightly wider, longer, RWD strait six version would put it in a class leading position. I’d like to see upgrades to the interior, and capacity for cargo. I’m sure a new interpretation of a mid size Jeep will be more Grand Cherokee related than Compass related and will be more capable in all things Jeep. It has to be. A three row spin off might go to Wagoneer, two row spin off to Chrysler built on the same assembly line. I’m hoping this rumor is right.

I would love for wha tyou say to be true. (Two time XJ Cherokee owner here) Been wanting something that is close to an XJ replacement. No, the 4 door Wrangler isn't it. I could even see your idea spinning off a minibed pickup version. I'd beat down my dealer's door for mid size Jeep or Ram pickup (rear wheel drive based).
As it is right now there is a huge gap in product lineup at Jeep. Need a fixed roof, unibody, rear wheel drive based mid size SUV that is lighter and cheaper than the Wrangler and less expensive than the Grand Cherokee. If I wanted a front wheel drive CUV I'd just go and shop the competition. To me those aren't the Jeeps I want.
 
That's coming, but unfortunately it's not going to be cheaper than the Grand Cherokee.

The 2017 Chrysler 200 was the last Detroit (suburb) manufactured vehicle and USA assembled. The last year was 2016 IIRC (production ended in Dec ? )
 
The 200 is basically coming back as the Airflow. There will be an AWD version and it will be pricey, even though it will probably use lithium iron phosphate batteries (cheaper)...although I haven't seen any press releases from Samsung SDI or LG on LiFePO4, I'm sure it's coming.
 
They will make it happen. You can take 90% of what Bob says as fact - he has legit sources. Those sources also sometimes give snapshots of truth to goose existing sales - the WL75 not having enough room for a battery for example. That may be true, to a degree - it may take until the WL75 MCA to get the battery, but it WILL get one. Volvo has a seven passenger PHEV out now, in limited volume. You're meaning to tell me Chrysler isn't going to follow up with a competitive offering until THREE YEARS from now? Come on.

There's never been more people working at CTC these days - put them to work, get all the plants on three shifts.

If the Chinese, er I mean Swedes can do it, so can Chrysler -
Funny that you brought up the Volvo. I needed something fuel efficient, still nice and fun to drive, and just picked up an XC60 recharge plug-in hybrid. Seems to me to be the perfect balance between electric and gas without being tied to a plug.

That would be dope ! Kinda like how gm revamped their Colorado twins to more directly compete. By offering those Off road trims they can have a bronco sport destroyer in a Foe Grand Cherokee body without the risk of damaging it. Plus it’s Wagoneer trim will hit the Disco, X3 , GLC
 
The question was about Cherokee.
 
Well at least we know what it looks like now. Powertrain to be determined.
 
They have another thing coming if they think people are going Ok with Dodge replacing the Hemi with the Inline 6 SO and HO. It absolutely needs to be electrified (PHEV), or it will flop.

I honestly think we may not see the Charger or Challenger ICE options until calendar 2025, maybe calendar 2024 if ZF can move up Production of the 4th Gen PHEV transmission. They know they are destroying Dodge brand equity without having the PHEV trim. They did right by the Hornet with the PHEV trim. So you're telling me they would launch the Charger and Challenger without the PHEV trim? That doesn't make sense. They will delay the cars before and make sure they launch with a PHEV trim, or they will say they will launch the PHEV trim six months after SO/HO Production begins.
 
While I want PHEV Tornado it isn't going to flop without because the powerplant has the numbers to support itself on it own, It outperforms but the Apache and the Eagle. And some of have done deep dives into t say it has more potential for boost upgrades that the Eagle Never could handle. So enthusiasts who like to tune will have plenty of room to work.

The biggest issue is the marketing on the Hemi engines has been incredible, the reputation even exceeds it performance. What will be required will be similar marketing efforts toward enthusiast and to the contrary of the previous post hanging all that on Electrifications crutch would be the error. The ICE version must be properly hyped, here between the coastlines the Enoise gets a TON of pushback.
 
And yes they should Call it Tornado... not Hurricane they need to make it a distinction between it and the 2.0liter. PSA management doesnt quite get it.

All the polls and informal anecdotes I’ve seen show that only 1 in 4 Dodge buyers are interested in replacing a Hemi with an I6. And on the contrary, they've had to do very little marketing because their competition sucks/doesn't get it - everyone wants a big boxy (fast) V8 at the cheapest price possible. It's that simple.

Depends on the question you ask. If is Epower or inline 6 your likely find the opposite from my talking to club people.

No one thinks the Hemi should go away but they voted for people that are making it happen.
 
That’s what I’m saying - only 1 in 4 people are interested if it’s SO or HO without PHEV.

That jumps to 3 in 4 if it’s SO with PHEV - and the PHEV option is faster than standalone HO.

I am hearing though that internally SO with PHEV is not favorably liked because -

1) it’s expensive
2) it’s what everyone wants
3) it’s hard to manufacture at volume
4) the margins are smaller than BEV

To this I say - tough $h1t! You want my money? Produce this.
