Ford Follows Ram’s Lead, Pulls the Plug on the All-Electric Lightning

Ford Follows Ram’s Lead, Pulls the Plug on the All-Electric Lightning

The Extended-Range (EREV) Era Takes Over

For the better part of the last decade, Detroit has pushed hard toward fully electric pickup trucks. Some of that momentum is now slowing, and the market is speaking loudly. Earlier this year, Ram made headlines by backing away from a pure battery-electric Ram 1500 REV and instead putting its full weight behind the extended-range electric Ramcharger. At the time, critics questioned the move.

Ford is also dropping the Escape, which is a really dumb move. They should just follow Toyota's lead and gone all hybrid for that model. Now that the Lightning is no longer in the picture, Ford shouldn't worry about running out of batteries for their hybrids. Instead they dropped their best selling hybrid models.

Well for once Stellantis was ahead of the curve. Good move on their part. Just think of how much money they saved and didn’t loose.

Plant is getting a new product.

That's cool for the trucks, what about the Charger?
Magna and ZF are competing with each other in range extender technology. There are other players as well, but it seems Magna and ZF are battling it out for the lead both in state of the art and sales. The sales of course are coming from China, but Auburn Hills can buy into this as well.

Auburn Hills may hold a slight lead for range extended battery pickups, but for cars and crossovers they're woefully behind.

I hadn't read this until you just mentioned it, which of course made me look into the ZF electric range extender. Ya'll already know I'm a fan of the STLA Large platform and the Charger and I've been looking at a lot of the articles of things Stellantis has talked about over the years with this platform and electrification and of course, the Charger. My thoughts at this point are why can't Dodge make the Daytona match the Telsa Model S P100D in horsepower and torque (670hp/755tq), have the ZF eRE on the front EDM, take the rear EDM and add the 3-speed gearbox, put in the Factorial FEST semi solid state batteries, add in the thermal runaway "exhaust" system, blending it with the Fratzog system and call it a day? If the batteries are lighter, more efficient and improve range along with the fact that the 3-speed gearbox is supposed to improve range and the ZF eRE would improve range, then why not do it? Granted I am personally more concerned with performance and the overall driving experience but from where I'm sitting, that just makes sense. The already added in the new battery charger that is compatible with the Tesla charger and if the semi-solid-state batteries charge faster even on a regular charger, this also to me seems like an added benefit.
Although I feel like it's probably just me, I see so much potential for this car no matter what powers it and that's both factory and aftermarket. From a Borla Upgraded Fratzonic system, a full SRT tuned suspension and braking system, SRT/ Direct Connection wheels, aero, interior, lighting, etc. along with the technology upgrades, to me certain things just need to happen. IDK, just my thoughts.
