If you are a Mopar toy collector like we are, then you know that feeling you get when you think you found the next hidden gem in the toy aisle at the local supermarket. Well, this past week on our weekly adventurers to the local Meijer, we happened to come across this MotorMax 1:24 scale 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT HELLCAT Widebody diecast. What really caught our eye was the on sale discounted price of $12.99. So we put in it our cart, to see what kind of treasure we happened upon.
When opening the box, the first thing you notice is this model isn’t as detailed as the ones from companies like Maisto or Jada Toys. But it is a good looking model from certain angles. The opening doors when shut, leave pretty good gaps and makes the model look very cheaply put together. The detail in the hood vents, the wheels and the rear of the car are simply amazing. The paint, however, looks like a four-year-old applied it. Our diecast had black paint that was accidentally painted too far away from the rear side glass on the driver side of the model.
While the hood and trunk do not open, the side doors open pretty far out. Inside the plastic interior has quite a bit of detail for the tiny cheap diecast. The Uconnect system has a decal, making it look like the SRT Performance Pages are up, while another decal is placed where the instrument panel gauges are on the production car. The model even has a lot of detail on the center console, with the Dodge T-shifter and even the cup holders in the right spots.
While this model isn’t necessarily a top-tier showpiece, it would make an excellent toy for the young Mopar lover. It wheels spin very well and the diecast has no problem rolling across the uneven ground. We suggest this piece is more for young kids than diecast collectors, but for $12.99 USD, we weren’t expecting a diecast showcase for this one. But it still is a great looking model. We would give it three out of five stars.
