CAUGHT: 2022 Jeep® Compass Prototype Reveals More Details:

New LED Headlights, Peek Through The Camo...

The Jeep® brand has been very secretive about its mid-cycle action (MCA) of its 2022 Jeep Compass (MP). The current generation of Compass has been a huge success around the globe and Jeep is taking all measures to make sure the refreshed 2022 Jeep Compass will continue that path.

While recent spy photos of the 2022 Jeep Compass have shown us little to nothing new due to the heavy vinyl camouflage covering the front end of the vehicle and the massive amounts of camouflage stickers across the body, last month our friends at AutoCar India captured some pictures of the interior showing us some new details about the design direction of the MCA of the vehicle. Now, we are getting to see more photos of what is in store for the exterior of the vehicle.

Outside the 2022 Jeep Compass will retain much of its exterior appearance. Upfront a revised grille, new LED headlamps, and fog lights will set off a new striking look for the compact SUV. Both the Jeep Cherokee (KL) and the Jeep Renegade (BV) also got LED headlamps in 2019, so it only makes sense to bring them to the vehicle position between the two in the lineup. In these latest European photos from our friends at Gabetz Spy Unit, we get a chance to see them peeking over the heavy front vinyl camouflage.

From the side profile, we also can see the new tablet design for the new Uconnect 5 system that will be incorporated into the interior. While we aren’t sure that the screen size might be getting larger from the current 8.4-inch system, we do know that FCA is working on a new series of screen layouts with Panasonic

We are still expecting that the North American-spec 2022 Jeep Compass will replace the old 2.4-liter with the Renegade’s 1.3-liter direct-injection turbocharged engine with engine stop-start (ESS) technology making 180 horsepower and 210 lb.-ft. of torque. So horsepower should be around the same numbers as the old 2.4-liter, but the new powertrain will add 35 lb.-ft of torque more to the vehicle. This should buyers more acceleration power when entering the freeway and more confidence when passing other vehicles.

With the new electrified Compass 4xe that has been selling in dealer showrooms for the past few weeks now, there is a promise we could see that technology, stateside. The new plug-in hybrid system is standard on all four-wheel-drive (4×4) models across the lineup in Europe. While we might not have all 4×4 models get the electrified powertrain, the Jeep brand did show them off at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Vegas back in January, giving us a good idea that the option might be coming to North America.

Our sources have been telling us that the 2022 Compass will be loaded will new safety technology. When it comes to safety, Compass already offers best-in-class features but we are sure that FCA has some tricks up its sleeves. We are pretty sure, that the 2022 model will adopt L2 autonomy capability that has been showing up in several FCA vehicle lines over the past model year.

The Toluca Assembly Plant in Toluca, Mexico that builds the North American-spec Jeep Compass, recently spent downtime to upgrade its facilities in preparation for the 2022 Jeep Compass launch.
