From 1974 to 1993, the Dodge Ramcharger was the brand’s only SUV offering. Offered only as a two-door, the Ramcharger was based on a shortened D-Series / Ram pickup wheelbase and was a popular choice to compete with the full-size Chevrolet K5 Blazer and Ford Bronco. The Ramcharger was versatile, available in either two-wheel-drive (4×2) or four-wheel-drive (4×4), with engine choices varying from a standard slant-6 to the mighty 440 cubic-inch V8.
Over the Fourth of July holiday, one of our favorite digital artists, Abimelec Arellano (@abimelecdesign), created his vision of the ultimate full-size Ramcharger. Blending the best yesterday and today, his Ramcharger design incorporates classic styling cues from the first-generation Ramcharger with subtitle touches of modern tech, creating an awesome Pro-Touring SUV.
It sits on a lowered chassis for improved handling and rides on large 22-inch steel wheels featuring chrome deep-dish covers adorned with the Fratzog logo wrapped with wide performance rubber.
Under the hood lies a supercharged 6.2-liter (376 cubic-inch) HEMI® HELLCAT V8, delivering 707 horsepower to the rear wheels of this full-size SUV. Arellano’s Ramcharger design evokes nostalgia for the sport truck scene, a category now overshadowed by performance off-road trucks that rarely see off-road action.
“I’ve always had a strong liking for Ramchargers, so I thought it’d be fun to create something for today. It’s got that pro-touring stance, large wheels, and of course, a hefty dose of freedom under the hood, in the form of none other than a supercharged V8! 💪,” Arellano shared on Instagram.
The Ramcharger nameplate is set to make a comeback in early 2025, not as a standalone full-size SUV, but instead, it will debut as a variant of the 2025 Ram 1500. The 2025 Ramcharger features a 92 kWh battery pack paired with an onboard 130 kW generator. Power is delivered through a 250 kW front and 238 kW rear electric drive modules (EDMs). With vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-home bi-directional charging capabilities, the Ram 1500 Ramcharger can charge another Stellantis battery-electric vehicle or provide power back to the grid.
